hey all just wondering what's the best way to get from memmingen airport to munich?

coach from airport, or taxi to a bahnhof and then train?

    Define 'best' ?

Both ways work. What are your constraints ? Money, time, comfort, something else ?

and how many of ye are there?

if you are on your own then just get the shutle bus as its by far the handiest and for one person is cheaper as its only 15 euro booked in advance.

If theres 2 of ye then theres a day ticket called the bayern ticket that does all regional (slower) trains and most busses in Bavaria for about 30 euro for up to 5 people travelling together and the exact cost is depending on whether you buy it from a machine or a person over the counter. It also does munich (and nuremburg) city transport systems.
Only restriction is you cant use it monday to friday before 9am.
For 2 its a longer and more hassle involved journey to go by public transport and the 30 euro split amongst 2 is 15 euro so no cost benefit really.

For more than 2 the cost benefit starts to add up to go by public transport (and at least you are getting a benefit for the hassle and time hit) and if you can max the bayern ticket with 5 people its only 6 euro a head, and you have the bonus of free travel for the rest of the day in Munich.

sorry for my non detailed post. 2 people travelling and looking for best value (not necessarily the cheapest).

flight arrives in at 12:45 and there's a coach at 13:10 which we'll miss its safe to assume and the next coach is at 15:10.

was thinking of the train ticket that's 58 euro for the two and does the return trip.

    you wont miss it.

those busses are specifically tailored for ryanair services and will wait till all booked passengers have cleared security, unless the plane is chronically late but as you say theres another one at 3pm so its not long of a wait if worst comes to the worst. EDIT: so it states on the website

for 2 it works out at the same as the train but is just far handier. Its motorway the whole way so unless you get unlucky with the traffic it'll be marginally quicker too and arrives in Munich in exactly the same place

I got the bus before, and am getting it next week again and its a great service I'll have to be honest.

Hi. I'm heading to Munich in December but I can't find any specific information about airport buses/trains from Memmingen to Munich. Can you give me any websites so that i can check timetable etc? Don't want to leave it to chance!

Many thanks. I take it then that there are no buses from the airport to Munich?

There are direct buses between Memmingen airport and Munich central train station:

Many thanks for the information. However, FYI these buses stop on 1st December. Does nobody visit Munich in December??? Anyway, I've found a train that goes directly from the airport to the city. Hopefully that will work out okay. Thanks for your help.

I'm pretty sure there isnt a train station within the airport, unless its a new addition in the last year. You will probably need to use the shuttle bus from the airport to the nearby station.

Enjoy your time Munich its a great city!

There is no train station in the airport but the bus ride from the airport to the train station is nice and short.

FWIW, the coach timetables are only published a few months in advance. They will release the December timetable eventually.

calling the very irregular local bus a shuttle might give the wrong impression.
It only runs 6 times a day, so at most every 2 hours and sometimes with a larger gap.

If travelling on your own the coach will bring you there much quicker at a cheaper price than the train (+local bus or taxi)
Once you get to a group of 5 you can start thinking about maybe a taxi + a regional train to Munich being cheaper, but even then you still wouldnt want to be in a fierce rush either.

Will be travelling with my other half. I'll check out buses and trains closer to the date we're travelling. Hopefully there'll be a bus/train leaving reasonably soon after our arrival time.

We got a taxi there was 6 of us so was just a small bit dearer for the taxi and was quick.enough.and was brought straight to the door.

the busses from the airport to and from Munich are timed (and re-adjusted/ scheduled on a case by case basis) to the times of the Ryanair arrivals and departures, so you wont get out of there quicker except if you have your own car parked in the car park.

The fact that the busses are timed according to the Ryanair flights is fairly clearly stated on the bus / airport website I thought.

We ended up hanging around the airport for an hour or so during the Summer after arriving in from Dublin. Ryanair had another flight arriving from somewhere in the UK within the hour, so I presume the coach waited for both flights before heading off. It wasn't a huge delay and it was technically on schedule according to their timetable so it didn't cause us any problems. I think our flight was in around 1145 and the bus left at 1300.
