Citroen Grand Picasso 1.6 diesel advice needed

Thinking of changing Renault Grand Scenic (1.6 petrol) for Citroen Grand Picasso (1.6 diesel) for fuel economy reasons, we're doing enough milage to justify a diesel.
    .
What is typical mpg for a grand picasso 1.6 diesel?
    .
Does anyone have advice on what year or model of Picasso to avoid?
    .
Is the elecronic gearbox system troublesome?
    .
Are we nuts to be looking at a Citroen?? (couldn't be any worse than a Renault )

I wouldn't go with the electronic gearbox if I were you.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire:P

Make sure you have calculated how long it will take for the savings on running costs to amount to how much you will spend on changing cars before you decide if its worth it.

They're very loud/tractorlike also, know a few people who have them & the noise when accelerating is deafening

Well my Mrs has had one for three years and can't say thats an issue. We've found the EGS very reliable and economical. As for the gearbox - the automatic setting is pretty slow changing but the manual (paddle) is super fast. I WOULD recommend the car.

Give us a break here what mileage are you doing? What mpg are you getting and how is it costing to change?

Because I bet it will take 7-10+ years to break even.

If you are considering the Grand Picasso then you would do well to look at current (post 2009) Grand Scenic. Far superior to its predecessor and more than a match for the Citroen which is now quite an old design. Your money will also get you a younger Renault than the C4.

Not quite true as the change speed is the same in mnaul or auto mode... just you activate it with the paddle. The UK also had a 2.0hdi with a true auto.

We have 4 year old GP.. since new. 1.6 hdi with EGS.. in the UK the EGS was standard on the Exclusive model.. Exclusive model also has self leveling rear suspension. which means it's also great for towing.

We get 45mpg.. will creep over 50 on a run. but never topped 53. I use the speed limiter to never exceed 95kmh.. just to help with the fuel a but.

The EGS has lower emissions and better MPG too!

Oh. at 80,000 km an not one issue... just services and tyres.

OP - are you the fella that spoke to my wife in Manor West?

    Hi guys

Getting a C4 Grand Picasso 1.6HDI VTR+ EGS imported from UK from an auction selling off Mobility car stock. Getting it for €14200(inc VRT) with 20000 miles on the clock. Comes with 50000 miles warranty from dealer.

Any opinions or advice? First time doin this and never had a 7 seater.! It seems to tick all the boxes and even though some folk say the gearbox is jerky and slow etc, I still think these are minor points..??

Is that dealer in the UK or Ireland?
    Is it a Citroen dealer?

    Hey Scottie

It's with the Irish dealer. They have been
importing like this for years and ,in fairness, it's easy to be sceptical about dealers, but I'm happy with this. They have a good name so they will only import the best..So fingers crossed..!

Do you own a C4GP? If so, what do you think?

They are not Citroen main dealers by the way..;)

I'm not being sceptical, I was a little concerned about the warranty being in UK - which its not:D. I had issues with Citroen UK but managed to resolve it at the garage where I purchased it.
What year of C4 did you buy?
Yes as previously said on another post, the Mrs has the 1.6Hdi EGS. Great family car.

I note from another post that they have concerns with the EGS. I drive a trucks with and similar systems and they have 800,000+km on them..

It's a 2009 reg.. Had an offer of €14300 accepted on the same model but 50k miles.. But the one I might be getting is roughly same price but 30k miles less.. :)

The dealer mentioned that I will have to pay a fee of €265 after 4 weeks.. Something to do with VRT ??
