Alright lads. So as the title suggests I'm getting no program info on the Saorview channels. All I get when pressing the Info button is the name of the program and the "info" is a solitary asterisk. I get info on the Satellite channels alright. I'm using firmware V2.05B2. Is there a new firmware which fixes this? Google threw up nothing. Also, can someone recommend a good channel editor for the CX61?

Ali chipset. The Ali editor will work with these.

I dont know whether they have sorted the 7 day epg for Saorview, but all Ali chipsets need to be configured to understand it (in the firmware).

Re channel list/firmware. You could try loading the channel list on TV trades website It probably has the latest firmware bundled with it. Let us know how you get on. You load it from a usb device and use the menu.

Thanx STB. I downloaded the list from TV Trade earlier and it made no difference unfortunately. Also, when I try to open the Dump.abs file in the Ali editor I get a pop up saying "unrecognized file". Is there a tutorial for this? I must be doing something wrong.

Dunno. I dont have one of these. But they are very similar to the Ferguson's (also Ali chip and abs files) but do not use any Ferguson firmware or channel lists on the CX as it will brick the bootloader.

I have tried opening the channel list in the Clarke Tech Editor studio and it does, but there is a lot of stuff missing with some of the channel names, so it wouldn't be suitable. God knows what it would export back.

There is definitely a Generic Ali Editor out there. I have tried it, ages ago. Let me have a look to see how bad it was again.

Dave of TV trade is the best man to talk to about these boxes as he sells them. I don't know much about them other than the chipset.

Yeah I managed to open it in the Ariva editor but 90% of what was in the fields was gibberish. I should have opted for another Ariva in the first place. Anyway I'll drop Dave a line seeing as I bought it off him in the first place. Thanx again STB.

It's strange though because on the video on the TV Trade site the info for Saorview seems to work fine. I emailed Dave but unfortunately he couldn't help.

Megaupload is no more. Upload it to http://www.mediafire.com/ and then copy and paste the link and post it here :)

Great. Thanx a lot for that. Downloaded no problem. I'll install it later on and hope I have the same outcome as you.

no bother. Be sure and back up channel list first though by "dump file to usb" Once firmware is done then upgrade via usb and select the back up you created file and select userb upgrade. That seemed to bring back all my old channel list anyways.

just checked the german web site and translated via google the contents of the firmware release ( this is firmware 2.05b1 and 2.05b2 available here

Hi Jerryglit, the below link is for offical Smart Firmware for the CX 61 and is 2.17B8 which seems a lot more advance than their website one.

Here's the "how to" on the firmware update for the Smart CX61 box. I dont have the menu in front of me so I'm working off my dodgy memory unfortunately! To the pureists out there I'm sure I dont have everything spot on but below worked for me hence why I'm passing this on.

Basically to do the upgrade you first need to backup your channel list.

If you dont have a hard drive connected to the box then you will need to insert a usb memory stick or other usb storage device into the back of the box. Then: -

1)Press menu button and scroll down until you see upgrade by USB.
    2) once on the upgrade by usb menu scroll through options until you see dump. Press ok. It will let you know when its finished.
    3) Exit upgrade by usb menu and scroll through other options until you see safely disconnect usb device and click ok. Then remove memory stick.
    4) Insert the storage device into your computer and download the file on the link below onto the root drive of the usb storage device i.e make sure the file isn't downloaded into a folder on the usb memory device. Once download is complete then disconnect the usb device safely from the computer.
    5) Re-insert the usb storage device into the back of the smart box and press the menu button and head for the upgrade by usb menu. Scroll through options until you see "all software & bootloader" option. Make sure that you select the file which you have just download which I believe will be called "CX61 2.17B8" and then hit ok. Upgrade should only take about a minute and the box will restart once complete.
    6) On boot up the box I believe is in default german but I think its gives you the option to select English on start up. If not then dont panic as you just need to scroll through the menues until you see "spracken" then select English.
    7) You will notice that there are a load of German channels in the channel list after update. Press menu and select TV list and then one of the colour buttons down the bottom selects all the channels then delete them.
    8) Then schroll to the upgrade by usb menu again only this time you are not looking to upgrade all software & bootloader, you need to select "userb" or "default userb" not 100% what the exact wording is here but should be close to one of these. This time make sure the file you select to update from the the original file which you backed up from the box which will prob have a big long name. Then hit ok.
    9) When complete exit out of the menu and all channels should be back as they were before you started. But information on the Saorview channels should now be working.

Hope all works out for you. Let me know how you get on.

    thanks, works great for me.

thanks for that! was wondering why the info didn't work.

is there a update that will fix the epg on satellite to make it 7 day? and is there a way of getting the red button to work with BBC?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 676 ✭✭✭O'Prez

Unfortunately you won't get a 7 day EPG for satellite on a FTA box.

    or red button functions?

I think you can tune in feeds you get via the red button as separate channels. They usually have "stream" as part of the channel name.
