    Hi there,

Interested in set of wheels for commuting. Ideally something sturdy and in excellent condition. Was thinking of building a set of wheels on a DT Swiss spec but the numbers are adding up fast for what is just a commuting wheel.

Something like this would be perfect :

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=76894251

but also open to factory wheels or other suggestions for wheels that are known to be sturdy. I'm 97 KG (just over 15 stone) without any cycling gear and panniers etc so would need to be a strong ish wheel set.

If I could get something like fat bloke was selling for 100 quid that would be great but budget is flexible.

    Thanks!

I'm around 110kg at the moment have just bought the Model C wheelset from Planet X.
    http://planetxireland.com/products-page/clincher-wheels/planet-x-model-c-wheelset/

They might be a little outside your budget at €160 but with a 32 hole front and rear they should be plenty strong. So far they are holding up well for me.

Would you be interested in Mavic Aksiums?

Thanks letape. Have been watching CSS for some time now for a cheap set of aksiums on a Wednesday.

Would be interested in a set if the price was right.

Should have said shimano in my post by the way.

I've a pair of DT Swiss 1900's with about 300km which are surplus to requirement http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=30863

I'd let them go for €150 if you're interested?

Thanks Sean. Not familiar with those wheels but a quick Google throws up some questionable reviews in terms of strength and durability etc. Given I'm a bit of a fat lad ill leave them for someone else! Thanks.

Hi wersal_gummage - yes I have a pair of Mavic Aksiums. They are brand new with a shimano freehub. I had been going to build up a bike with the 105 stuff I had but decided I could do without another one!

Anyway, I would sell them for 140 or 155 with a brand pair of michelin orium tyres. I can't go any lower than that.

Thanks for that. I think I'd be more interested in an Openpro and ultegra type set up than that though.

Thanks Letape. That sounds like a very fair price for a set of new Aksiums. However, as I'm not really looking for aksiums, I'd only buy a set if i got them for a steal (i.e. the 100 euro bargain on CSS last year).

Should just say my budget isn't 100 euro or so. I dont mind paying 200 or 250 or whatever for a decent set of sturdy wheels. Ideally, a set of those wheels I linked to that fat bloke was selling for 100 would be perfect, but am open to other suggestions.

would you mind sticking up a photo of those wheels feck sake lads ??

You built them yourself did you ? I don't need tyres, tubes or casette.

Am I right in assuming the deore freehub and mavic rims are pretty entry level stuff ?? Say in comparison to ultegra/openpro type set up ? ?

sorry no can do. the deore/mavic319 rims is every bit as good as ultregra different beast more for touring commuting even some off road stuff wider tires more spokes so a much stronger wheel the penalty being there heaver than open pro/ultregra:cool:
    i bought them from wiggle hand finished cost 120 sterling /cassette cost 40 /tires cost 80/ tubes 16 .
anyway good luck in your hunt

I'll give you €140 for the wheels and tyres if it'll take an eight speed cassette.
