I am a student tho and dont have a bomb to spend. Can anyone advice me as what to do or buy or where to look or what I need. Completely cluless when it comes to Mac ?

    To make what?

I don't understand. Do you mean: "by thinking logically"?

You want a Mac? What's your max. budget? If it's low, you might want to consider a refurbished Mac or a second-hand Mac or building a cheap PC with hardware to run OSX. Or do you need something portable?

Best if you tell us what you need in terms of screen size, RAM, CPU speed, Hard Drive space and portability.

I believe the OP is referring to the application Logic rather than reason ( another audio program :).

Depends on what the OP wants to do but even a low end Mac can be used in association with audio interface boxes. Video editing will need a more powerful Mac.

Ah, OK. So "Logic" is an application. (In English we write names with a capital letter to avoid such confusion.) I've never heard of it but maybe it's for Windows only. If you want an OSX equivalent, you'll have to describe what you want to achieve with it.

I use iMovie and QuickTime for basic video editing. I haven't needed anything better. I use WireTap Studio for audio manipulation.

I also use an ElGato Turbo.264 USB video encoder and hardware accelerator for H.264 video. It converts any kind of video for playback on an iPad and iPod.
Warning: the short USB cable supplied with mine was faulty and I had to buy a better quality one.

BTW This is what happened to Logic.

    Reason IS quite good too.

No Logic is Mac OSX only. It's one of the big music production programs out there and is used by a lot of big DJ's and Producers.

Anyway OP as far as your budget, i'd go looking on the Apple refurb section for a good deal. Go for a good processor (i3, i5, or i7 preferably) and you can always save some money by upgrading the RAM yourself. Since you mentioned video editing i'd probably look into upgrading the screen to Hi-res also.

Another option would be to go through the Education store and you'll receive a small discount since your a student.

Macs's are pricey though it'll be though finding a bargain. You could always check Adverts.ie as well for a second hand model.
