Meteor Dropped Calls/Buzzing Sound

    Hi All,

I wondering is there any more people out there experiencing dropped calls with Meteor lately??

I have been having major problems with calls being dropped. I'm living in Dublin and it's been happening for the last couple of months both with my old phone (a Nokia) and my new phone (samsung galaxy S plus). It's got to a point where almost every call I make will be dropped at some stage (you often get a weird buzzing noise that just cuts over the conversation and stays there).

All of my family and friends on Meteor said they are experiencing the same problem, some with Android phones and some with old Nokia's. It is happening on nearly every call now and its getting very annoying.

I rang customer services about this to ask why this was happening (the call dropped twice doing this) and the girl on the phone said there was no problems with the service and it was the first she had heard of this happening which i find hard to believe because its happening to everyone i know on meteor!!! Ive also been on the Meteor forum about this and there customer services manager told me to get a new SIM card which I did and it hasnt changed nothing, still dropping calls daily. He then said that it must be the phone itself but its literally brand new and as Ive mentioned, its happening to a lot of other people.

Just wondering is anyone else experiencing this on Meteor?

    Thanks

So that proves its happening to a lot of people in various parts of the country. It seems to me that Meteor are trying to pretend nothing is wrong with the network by saying its either a sim card issue or the phone itself. I find it hard to believe that so many phones/sim cards are faulty all of a sudden throughout Ireland!!

Anymore out people there with this problem??

    Hmmmm.

This happens when I ring my gf. Both of us on Meteor. I've a HTC Desire, and she has a HTC Desire S.

Is it kinda like the call freezes, and the audio gets hung? Sometimes it fixes itself but most times you have to hang up and call again?

I thought that was a problem with her phone so spent ages researching newer radio versions and all this jazz. But if its a Meteor problem, then that's another thing altogether!

PS, her SIM card is probably only a few months old. She got the new one when she moved to Meteor to get the phone. My sim is from August 2010.

It's happened to me a few times recently in Meath.

Interested to hear about this - I thought it had something to do with me running an Android ICS beta on my Galaxy S2, and was going to change versions at the weekend.

Been getting the same as well over the past few months. It's very sporadic.

Happened when calling other companies such as Eircom / UPC, as well as Meteor to Meteor, and in different locations in Dublin.

Sounds just like a buzzing sound. The person on the other end doesn't hear anything at all.

This is what im saying, its clear that its a Meteor network issue but they are not admitting it and trying to say its a sim card or phone issue. When I rang customer services about it the girl on the phone said it was the first she'd heard about it, that nobody had made a complaint previously... Doubt it...!!

Is there anything that can be done about this to get it sorted because its affecting a lot of people. Im getting dropped calls during business hours which is just not acceptable for the money we pay each month for the service!!

It happened me about 5 times yesterday in the space of 5 mins the call just kept dropping. I was talking to myself with nobody on the other end:o. Something has to be done it cant keep going on especially if its happening a lot of people. We are still being charged for the full minute even if the call is dropped after 10 seconds:mad:

Happened twice to my wife and I on Friday in the space of 10 minutes.
I was near Dunshaughlin, she was near Dundalk.
We're both on Meteor, but it happens each of us occasionally when calling landlines or any mobile operator. Seems to only need one Meteor customer.
I got the buzzing sound the first time - she didn't.
She got the buzzing sound the second time - I got total silence.

Myself and gf getting the same problems. My gf mentioned this to a meteor rep, and was told its an issue with her phone, she replaced the phone and is still having the problem. The problem seems to be most common for me when at home in Galway, but have also had it in different parts of the country, and also while roaming in Scotland!

Any chance of a Mod moving this up to "Mobiles & PDAs"?

    This isn't an Android issue.
It affects users of non-android mobiles on Meteor,
and there isn't a "Talk to..." for Meteor.

Never had this happen personally but have seen it happen. It seems to be certain base stations that do it rather than the network at large.

Have Meteor any plans to fix this problem or are they just gonna keep pulling the wool over our eyes and pretend there is nothing wrong and its our phones that's the problem

I'm on emobile which is basically the meteor network. I've noticed this has started happening in the last week or two. thought it was a problem with my phone.

I just saw a suggestion online there to change your connection settings to GSM only.
Mine was set to GSM/WCDMA (preferred) but I've change it to GSM only now to see if it makes a difference.

I'll post back if it makes any difference.

Would changing it to that getting have any affect on the internet performance? It still doesn't explain why its happening on older phones though because they wouldnt have these settings. Sure let us know how u get on anyway. Thanks

Not interested in trying that myself.
I pay for a data connection and use it a lot.
I'm not dropping back to a 2G network to "fix" it. Sorting it out is Meteor's job.

You have to wonder if there is actually something wrong with Meteor other than being overloaded.

They have some of the best prices at the moment, maybe they are overwhelmed by the people sick of paying Vodafone and O2's high rates and moving over. Great for meteor but a pain for us users who suffer until the network is upgraded to handle the extra connections.

Although i have not had any issues, maybe it doesn't affect the real capital (I.E. Cork :) )
