State Benefit Consultant??

    Hi all,

I know this is slightly off thread but i wondered if anyone knew of any private consultants in this area that I might be able to talk to.

I have tried citizens information a few times without any success as i think my situation is slightly more complicated than the norm.

I have been working nights part time for the past 2 years (4hrs x 5 nights per week), also during this time I have been self employed in the architecture industry as my normal working hours have still been free.

My night position has now come to an end and I will be returning to college on one of the new ICT skills course in April. These are intensive 6 month full time courses 9am to 5.30pm 5 days a week.

This more or less puts a stop to the limited amount of architectural work I have been getting but i would like to stay self employed and work in whatever I can (on weekends or free evenings etc.)

What i want to know is what are my benefit entitlements??

    Social welfare payment ??
back to education grant / maintenance etc.??

If anyone knows of any specialist in this area that I could sit down with on a one to one basis I would be extremely grateful.

    Cheers

    Vincenzo...

Once you are full time student you cant claim. You cant get btea if you havent been claiming jsa/jsb.

I agree with wmp... if you are a full time student then you do not qualify for jsb/jsa... with regard to btea see the following criteria
    http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Schemes/BackToEducation/Pages/default.aspx

BTW your situation isnt complex. You cannot get BTEA if you do not have a live sw claim. So no point in paying money for a sw consultant (dont even know if there is such a thing). If you need any further info pm and I will do it for free. :)

In summary for the new ICT skills courses, what you have you hold, so long as you have been drawing some benefit for three months out of the last six. This is a slight departure from the usual conventions of the Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) / Part-time Education Allowance (PTEO) (see industry skills needs below).

So you don't need a consultant, just contact your local social protection office (http://www.welfare.ie/EN/ContactUs/Pages/localoffice.aspx) and see where you're at. On the basis of what you have posted here though it seems you don't have much in the line of benefit entitlements, sorry. But there is nothing to stop you pursuing the programme and carrying on you extracurricular work should you so wish. The ICT Skills courses are about meeting skills needs of industry in the first instance; therefore they are fee-free. The benefit entitlement issue is a side issue and only applies to those who may already qualify.
