    Hey,

My wife has just started a new job after a few years on the dole, and will be saving for a second car for herself just to to go to and from work (20 miles round trip, 5 day week). she loves the look of the MR2-s but i dont know much about them. the seem to have been out from 00-03 but i could be wrong. going rate second hand seems to be 2.5 - 5.5k

what are the general opinions on this model, have they got the famed toyota reliabilty? we're still on my first car (i was a late starter at 30) my trusty 97 corolla xli, and it owes me next to nothing, and i plan to drive it till it dies and move on.

so... pros and cons of the mr2-s? for my mrs? :D

There's a 99 one just gone up on donedeal for €1800, no mention of mileage but if serviced regularly that wouldnt bother me with a Toyota... Never driven one but id say they're good fun.
I'd be going in with fairly low offers, can't imagine there's much of a demand for them at the moment.

Nice looking red hardtop on adverts aswell FYI! Good luck.

I had a 99 one up to nov - new style convertible. 30 miles to the gallon - silver.

No problems with it - got a bit rattley towards the end - nippy.

I loved it but the commute was costing me a fortune. You should pick up one for 2k mark easy. I struggled to sell mine and eventually traded it in for 1400!!! Needed a diesel.

the one i had was a 99 - it was jap import.

Most of them start in 2000.

Try and get one with a hardtop - that way you can change it in the winter.

My car took a while to heat up in extreme cold (2 previous winters)

Great little car, be wary of oil consumption on the early models, Try stick to the 02 on models.

They give very little issues, I would suggest guttung the pre-cats if you do buy one. Pre cats have been kown to destroy engines by breaking up and rentering the engine. Just make sure she will be okay to drive it, they can be a twitchy bastard at the limits. I found it great last winter, no problem getting around in the snow, great fun in it two.

Have a look at mr2roc.co.uk or spyderchat.com, there is load of info on both sites.

    Hey,
I had one great little car not so cheap to run, the tax on it (1.8) in about 550 and petrol isnt cheap just cuz its small doent mean ot cheap on gas.

Make sure you double check the roof you want one with a tight roof because if you get a leak they are very expensive to replace so sourse one with a good one.

You should also make sure you have room for the hard top when not not using it.

Otherthan than the above stuff they are a great car.

extremely good to drive with the roof down when the weather is nice!
