Gym Etiquette

    Hi Lads and Ladies,

I have a question.... well maybe it's gonna say more about me than anyone else.

Let me begin by saying I DO NOT and WILL NOT use the gym as a cruising ground or actively seek out "good looking people" in the gym.

I have recently joined a gym and noticed that in the changing rooms and steam room/sauna people are really friendly, as in chatting and shooting the breeze etc. I have hit that awkward question though where they might ask about my weekend did I do anything nice etc.

Now in my everyday life this isn't so awkward I might answer with honest answers you know " I was out with the bf we went to the G" etc but for some reason in the gym changing room I feel a little awkward talking about my sexuality out of concern of how it will make the other lads feel, like it is a place where they get naked and they don't want to think that when they do that they are getting perved on etc.

So my question is this would you feel uncomfortable mentioning that your gay/lesbien/bisexual/trans in the gym changing room if it came up?

And for straight people that browse this fourm, would it make you uncomfortable to know that a gay/lesbien/bisexual/trans person was in the changing room with you?

I know I'd feel a little uncomfortable if I thought that while I was getting changed in the gym that someone was looking at me in a sexual context given that the gym isn't a sexual setting!!!!

Thanks in advance for any and all replies!

    Rochey!!!

you can always say friend/mate instead of boyfriend and if someone ask if you are married you can just say no, I can understand your dilemma though, it really isn't a place I would feel to comfortable talking sexual preferences either, if you end up friendly anough with someone from the gym you can tell them outside of the place so you are not announcing it to a whole bunch of naked strangers :-)

Don't worry your in good company in the gym, it's the g with big mirrors. :p Just watch out for heavily over weight people they're the only ones there for a purpose.

If I were going out with someone I would probably just avoid it if it came up - i.e. went out for a few drinks. This may lead to follow up questions when admittedly I would probably lie to avoid that awkward situation (fairly high percentage chance it's gonna be awkward I reckon!). Then again I would be a bit of a pussy about these things.

As for being in the changing rooms with other gay guys, well I'm sure it has happened, and generally it wouldn't bother me - unless I thought they were 'perving'. If they were, I would hate it. It would represent a level of social stupidity of a guy to do that, in my book anyway.
