Zafiras - Oil issues?

What is the verdict on the Zafira and oil consumption? - They seem to have quite a reputation for making the stuff disappear at an alarming rate.

    - Was wondering if this was ever cured after a certain year etc? Does it affect all engines?

Also was considering the 1.6 petrol but I think this may be underpowered and then in turn drink petrol making it a false economy?

Are the diesels reliable and all round a better bet? *Edit* forgot to mention mileage, am 12 miles out from City and school run alone is ~40 miles a day! Basically I'd love to get more miles for my euros but would worry about high repair costs on an aging/relatively high mileage diesel engine

Stressed budget allows for a 2004 reg at best.....

Final thought is that I have an idea that I might do a lot better bringing one home on the Ferry? Any thoughts or opinions appreciated on this too!

    Thanks folks.

P.S. Love motors on here - Its great to be able to research (and rule out) certain cars beforehand - would be relying on hopeless pot luck without all the varied experience and good advice on here

I've a Zafira that had an oil leak but since I had that sorted i have only had to top up 0.5l in the last 2k miles. I wouldn't call that excessive, my engine is the 2.0 petrol turbo, maybe the smaller engines that have to work harder suffer oil problems.

Thanks Chris, I've no idea really - Hoping someone on here might have some insight into these!

We have an 07 1.6 (Which i'm thinking about selling) and wouldn't describe it as particularly heavy on juice, like anything if ya drive it hard it will use alot more. No issues with oil either as far as i can remember.
