I'm looking to get a device that functions like a radio, which streams my library

I hope you know what I mean. I have a (analogue) radio ATM and it is annoying when the signal is clear when I am next to it, but when I sit on my couch 8 feet away the distortion can get unbearable.

Is there a device that I can place where my radio is, and can stream my WAV music library over my wireless connection? Something that can replace my radio. I've a very large music library (10,000+ WAV files.) and I would be glad if there is a product.

For a cheap way you could use an old android phone and hook it up to a stereo and use it as a streamer. Even better if your radio has an audio in option: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-interesting-spare-smartphone/

Just out of interest, why are you storing your audio files in WAV format when there are lossless formats out there that take up 10% of the space?

Because you can get a 2TB hard drive for less than 100 sterling. My music collection takes up less than 400GB in total.

Plus I love music, i've a rig worth over €2,300 and I like to hear every single detail :)

step 1 convert all your huge wav files into smaller lossless ogg or mp3 files (it will take less space upto 1/10th of the space)

then you can share a folder with all the music in it and access it over your wifi network. Cos mp3's are much smaller in size your wifi network should be able to handle the traffic alot better.

Copy them and keep the .wav's. Nigh on impossible to tell the difference, and will be much easier to stream then. What speakers have you got currently?

Worth that, or thats what you paid? Either way, nice! I got an expensive enough PC in 2010, but prices drop sickeningly quickly. :-(

Have a look at FLAC, great for audiophiles, it's lossless and should bring file size down 50-60%, you may have plenty of space on the hard drive but like Nothingbetter2d said, if you want to stream your music you'll be putting less pressure on your wifi. Plus media streamers may not even support wav.

Why cant you but a radio transmitter(like the ones for using an mp3 player in the car) and connect to your PC/Laptop and tune your stereo into it.
