i am travelling aer lingus dublin to rome this month, but does anybody know do i have to pay €5 in order to check in online using New Advance Web Check-in as tried to check in tonight but says i have to select seats first, another way of squeezing the customer, you pay for a flight and in order to book in online they want you to pay for a seat!

you can checkin free online within 30 hours of the flight
if you checkin online outside the 30 hours you have to pay extra

Yep, you have to pay if you want to check in more than 30 hours in advance.

Which generally means you'll have to find some way of checking in online for your return leg while over there, and printing your pass, or head to the airport early and check in there.

Checking in at the airport is fairly hassle free and doesn't cost extra.
