Glasses in Asia?

I went to Specsavers today for my first eye sight check in over four years. They send me letters every year so this year I went along with it as the test was €15 and I was happy with the price and having been there before I could not fault the service I got there before.

Back in 2008 I got 2 pairs of glasses a prescription polarized sunglasses and a normal pair with a green anti glare coating. They cost me something like €280 with some subsidy as I had a Medical card then. Today I seen some nice designer specs for €189 and it is a two for one deal. I think this is quite expensive and to get the coating will cost €45 extra per pair.

I got my prescription and my eyes haven't changed in the four years as I had pretty much guessed.

In three weeks time I am traveling to South East Asia and will be in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok and I was thinking of getting glasses over there instead as they should be cheaper especially for designer glasses. Has anyone ever gotten glasses abroad? My own current pair are badly scratched and this was the only reason I went for the eye test as I need to get new glasses, not because of my sight but because of the condition of my old pair! Last time I was in Thailand they have opticians on almost every street corner and every second or third person is nearly wearing glasses there and it appears Myopia - shortsightedness (which I also have) is quite prevalent there.

I was in Chiangmai 5 yr ago lost my prescription specs I ended doing an eye test and getting a pair of glasses there . Depending on prescription level it's fairly easy but in my case I'm abnormal :) had to wait 4 days I think ... Price wise can't remember now .. Just bring your prescription . Off to Thailand next week myself :)
