    Hi,
Myself and my partner are in the process of filling out application forms for the skilled migration visas for Canada..
Can anybody tell me is there really a need to go through a migration company or is it possible to do it on our own?? We have all the forms printed off but we're unsure whether to pay a company roughly 3,000e for something that we quite possibly could do ourselves..
Any advise would b greatly appreciated!!!

We looked into it before, as long as you read all guidelines and instruction documents you should be fine. Be careful giving money to migration specialists, they can make mistakes too and I don't think they're regulated. We were quoted 5k two years ago and turns out after our own research we didn't even qualify.

Oh god i couldn't imagine paying out that kind of money and then not b qualified.. These companies promise to help set up job interviews and settle you in accommodation which is why we are considering going with them as we have a 10 yr old son and want the move to go as smoothly as possible should we qualify..
    Thanks for the reply..

Hi carla, if you let me know what fields you are working in I may be able to put you in contact with somebody about work in Canada. A canadian friend of mine works for a job placement company and he is helping me find work there so I have told him I will try and get in contact with some irish people who might be interested in work. When I applied for my visa I did all the work myself and saved alot of money but it was only a working holiday one.

Be careful! There are plenty of scams out there when it comes to immigrating to Canada.

Hi, I'm also going to apply for the skilled permanent resident visa by myself. I'm a bit worried about it because i'm 40yr old and it seems to take soo long to process. Just wondering will age go against me?
I'm also an electrician and is it best to have a job offer before i apply or wait a couple of months before looking for job offer ?
How much money do i send with my application ?
I would love to move to Canada but at this stage of my life i would'nt go unless i had permanent resident visa and dont want to mess this application up.

I know you mentioned that you would only go with PR but it would be worth considering going on a work permit also.

If you find a company willing to do an LMO for you you can get your work permit pretty quickly. You could have your PR within 2 years of being here. That way you are not sitting waiting for the PR to come through, you already have yourself up and running....

IMO your age wouldn't be a huge factor here. If you were coming over to work as a 55 year old it may be a bit different.

Hi myself and my husband are thining of moving to Canada. I am a Canadian citizen moved to Ireland 15 years ago. I know the skilledworker visa had been put on hold but I could sponsor my husband I think. We are both 40 years of age & have 2 kids. I was also wondering should we do the paperwork ourselves or use specialists which by the looks of posts would be expensive. Can he apply for a work permit or do we have to apply for a visa? Does anyone know? My husband is a cabinet maker. Should he look for work first and see if they can sponsor. We are thinking of London, Ontario as I have friends there. Any advice would be grateful!:)

Is the standard fee upon acceptance of your application €105? I think it's daft to have to do so much paperwork, there should be an interview in the consulate where you produce your documentation, end of. people waiting 4 months! Thought Canada needed workers? for that matter what are the boom industrys over there does anybody know?

It was 105 last year who knows for this year.

And how long would 6350 interviews take to do?

I can only speak for Alberta but the boom stuff is Oil Gas and construction.
Its all fine and dandy when the price of oil is high, if oil dips in price for some reason. Giant find somewhere else or something like that. Suddenly it is unprofitable to dig up the tar sands and refine the oil and deal with the vast quantities of dirty water produced. The oil towns like Fort Mac will dry up and the job market will be flooded with out of work pipefitter machine drivers etc. Numbers moving to Alberta will drop. Demand for housing will dissappear and suddenly onstruction workers are out of work too.

How likely is it to happen? Who knows it happened before in the 80s but our reliance on Oil and oil products should keep the prices up.
