we used to run 2 cables to the actuator(and thats not today or yesterday)
one 3 core power cable (two cores to power the motor and one for earth)and one 2 core screened cable to the reed sensor(one core for 5v supply, one core for carrying the reed pulses back to the positioner and the screen was also earthed to prevent noise from entering the system and upsetting the counter)
i think it was 1.5 three core cable we used depending on the distance involved, hope this helps.
