Am I due a USC refund? I was in a job from Jan 2011 to 16th Feb 2011. Then I was out of work until the 11th April.

My P60 shows Total Pay at 19961.98
Pay in respect of previous employment of 2694.48
Pay in respect of this period of employment is 17267.50

My USC details on the p60 show:
    1. Gross pay for USC is 17267.5
    2. Amount of USC deducted is 754.40

Am I due a refund as according to my calculations I believe I am?....

Those figures look like the second employment only, did you get a USC cert when you left the first employment?

In my first employment in the year my cumulative USC paid was 49.56.

Photocopy your P45 , P60 and medical card if you had one in 2011 and send claim to your local tax office .

I understand how to file a claim but I'm asking am I due a refund going by the figures I've given from my P60 and if so, how much? I can't find a USC calculator out there that would tell you if you're due a refund.

Based solely on the total salary (no idea about your family situation or anything), from http://taxcalc.eu/ it looks like you may have overpaid by about €40.

If they count social welfare towards the total, then you've underpaid by about €40.

Personally, unless I was really stuck for the €40 I'd probably let it go, as they could end up asking for more.

As always the answers are on the Revenue website.

Use the USC rates for 2011:
    2% on first 10036
    4% on next 5980
    7% on remainder

If the figure you arrive at is lower than what you have paid in total then a refund is due of the difference.

Its not possible to tell you , as you hav'nt revealed full circumstances for 2011

There is a USC calculator [Excel file] on the page shown in my signature underneath (sheesh- just noticed that my signature is only visible when I'm logged in). Set the year to 2011 then enter your total pay for USC purposes for the combined employments. You can also make settings for things like possession of a full medical card if applicable- it will compute the amount due for the year and you can compare this to the amount shown on your P60.
I can't post the link in the body of my reply under the forum rules (only as a part of my signature) as the moderator doesn't test /trust them.

I'm single in my early 20's. Claiming rent relief but everything else is standard.

Jeez everyone's making an awful rigmarole of this: of course the OP is due a refund, of about 88 quid by my reckoning, and the simple reason is because he was out of work for nearly 2 months. USC was calculated on a week 1 basis, so it was inevitable that he would be overcharged...

This holds true for pretty much anyone who worked for part of the year and was unemployed for part of the year, and earned more than €193 in any week.
