CV Preperation Companies

I have had allot of jobs over the years but most of them were found through contacts, promotions within companies, transfers (it’s a long story) to other companies etc.

I just realised I haven’t updated my CV in 10 years. I spent hours updating it and at the end its terrible. CV styles have changes so much over the years that I am really struggling.

The funny part is I worked in sales for quite a while, write professional and technical documents daily, and create sales presentations etc so I thought this would be easy.

I think that I am struggling to put all my experience into a standard CV format. I even stepped back and did a presentation to sell myself. It worked great but presentations are a two way street. You put the highlights on the slide, verbalise and discuss the detail and you get feedback (even if it’s only visual clues) as you go so you can adapt to suit the audience.

Putting my experience across in a standard template 2 to 3 pages long is proving virtually impossible.

While doing research on the perfect CV I came across a number of companies that claim to work with you to create the CV. It involves interviews, drafts, more interviews etc, apparently a long and detailed process.

I’m pretty sure that if I had a good, a really good standard CV I could adapt it to suit specific roles. I have no problems in spending money to get that template but don’t want to waste money either.

Has anyone tried any of these organisations?
    Are they any good?
    Is it worth the money?
    Any specific recommendations?

There is nothing these CV companies do that you cannot do yourself via the web. Just google around and you'll find tons of free stuff.

Alot of CV writing companies simply take your details and then the CV is outsourced to India where companies have ready made templates to fill in the blanks.

You can pay the €50-80 if you wish but if things are tight you'd be better off DIY, you'd most likely do a better job yourself given enough time.

One tip- pepper the CV with action verbs, words like 'accomplished', demonstrated, etc sell you a lot better than 'I did this' 'I worked here'
