RTE isn't yet transmitting series link information on Saorview. The Satellite service version of Saorview likely will not have TV3.

There are currently ZERO true PVRs for Saorview (though a "Freeview HD" PVR will record, there is no series link yet).

There are Saorview boxes that record, but they don't have built in HDD or 2nd tuner and may not work with Series Link when it is transmitted as they are not true PVRs.

RTENL/Saorview say they will implement "Series link" soon. Also there is supposed to be real Saorview PVRs soon.

You need an Aerial... Also ask in Terrestrial Forum not here as TV3 or 3E on Satellite FTA is unlikely.

I don't know much about this so maybe someone else might give better advice...

For BBC and UTV, I think your best bet might be a freesat Humax - it can connect directly to your existing Sky equipment, no subscription, gives you UK channels only, interface similar to Sky and you can series record the soaps (but you would need a separate setup for the Irish channels like a Saorview box):

You get Zero Irish TV without an aerial though, Analogue ends 24th Oct 2012, so either the TV has to have Saorview compatible Digital Tuner or you need a Saorview box.

For UK Television recording/viewing a "Freesat HD" Humax Foxsat HDR (Dual Tuner, + HDD) is a good choice.

    Don't both rte,and tv3 have a "player"?

You can watch the soaps up to a week later,if I'm correct.

Sorry if this is not what you are looking for.

Is this correct? Some time frame for change over, reckon there will be a lot of people with black screens come November 1st. How long was the change over in the UK? 10 years? How long have we been given? A year to change over?

Rte could be loosing a lot of viewers come November. People watching with FTA sat boxes will just carry on watching BBC/UTV etc.

I think you might be underestimating how many people actually want to watch RTÉ

The analogue signal will be switched off in the early hours of the 24th October, coordinated with N Ireland, so blank TV screens from then it you haven't upgraded to Saorview.

In the UK regional analogue switchoff dates are announced about 12 months before ASO e.g. N Ireland ASO date announced 14 Oct 2011, ASO date 24 Oct 2012.

Also in the UK most relay sites only get digital switched on (1 mux) two weeks before analogue is switched off, that's two weeks to ensure you have the correct aerial and receiving equipment.

Here in Ireland all sites were switched on 17 months before ASO and almost all running at full power, about 24 of the 51 transmitters were switched on when Saorview began the public testing phase in Oct 2010.

Sure don't they make all the soaps? :pac: Believe it or not, a woman said that to me one day.
