Will UK employers consider overseas applications?

    Hi,

I am currently living in Dublin and hoping to move to London in the next few months.

There's many jobs in my field of work and i've applied for all of them that i've come across over the past few days.

What I plan on doing is lining up interviews over 2 days and heading over there for them.

I don't really want to move over without a job as I can't afford to leave the job i'm in now without having someone else lined up.

My question is - will my application even been looked at if I don't have a UK address?

If you know someone living in the UK who would be willing to let you put their address on your application, it might help.

If it's a very specialised role where your skills/experience make you particularly suited for the job, it probably won't make a difference, but if it's a more general role where they're likely to get a lot of suitable candidates, then having a UK address is probably no harm.

My partner got his job from home, using an Irish CV..but his job is quite specific...you shouldnt have a problem if so, but if it's a general more generic post then forget it.

Head your CV up with 'Irish graphic designer/teacher/nurse/whatever looking to relocate to the UK etc'

I had no trouble with an Irish address but they did expect the applicant to relocate to London anyway. I'd say that there should be no problem so long as you attach a covering letter that makes clear that you're interested in moving over

I know a lot of people who got interviews while they were still living at home. They were in different types of jobs too- media, teaching, business, engineering. Some of them even had skype interviews so they didn't have to come over.

I'm having luck being considered for London-based jobs, and I'm currently living in Dublin. Just say you're willing to travel for an interview

It depends on the company I've found. Some will believe you, others won't. Even moving large distances in the UK, I found that companies asked what ties I had to the area as they didn't think that I'd move there or stay there.

Of course if the role requires any kind of security clearance, they won't consider you until you've lived in the jurisdiction.
