    Hi there,

I have the original Samsung Galaxy S a little less than a year now. last night I went to bed and left the phone in my jacket pocket and when I got up this morning and got it I noticed that it had run out of charge which was unusual as it was pretty much fully charged when I left work last night.

    However since I charged it

    1. The phone does not ring when someone calls me although I can make calls out.
    2. Screen lock not operating
    3. Phone switching off despite power in battery
    4. No Software Update available in settings
    5. Gmail Synch contacts not working
    6. Phone logs wiped
    7. All messages wiped
    8. 3G not connecting

I have not downloaded any dodgy apps. Anything I do download I get from the Android market place.

I have switched it off and back on but no joy.

    Has anyone any ideas ?

    Mark.

    Sounds like android is fragged.

People normally jump to suggest "factory reset" but avoid that for now and see if you cant get your stuff back first.

First thing I'd try is pulling the battery out for like ten minutes. Then reboot, set the time. Next check accounts settings and see if your google account is syncing. Also leave the SD card out in case something is reading from that and getting bad data.

Are you getting force close notifications?

Yes I had been receiving Force Close notifications for a couple of weeks prior to this but I just thought that there was something wrong with the App. It was mainly on Twitter although I hardly ever use twitter.

I don't have an SD card in it.

I removed the battery for 10 mins and then put it back and powered up again. I was not asked to reset the time but I received another Force Close message for Twitter so I have uninstalled it

My Gmail is synched now but all the call logs and messages are still missing. And It still is not receiving any calls and going straight through to voicemail.

Yeah, if your messaging data was somehow cleared then there's not really much that can be done(why backing it up weekly is generally a good idea).

Do you have any sort of task killer or battery control apps installed?

    Hi Ed,

thanks for your help. No I don't have anything like that installed. I am not receiving any calls in which is a pain. Should I go back to O2 with it ?

How long is the guarantee on smart phones normally ?

Your guarantee is 12 months (at least) so you should take it back straight away.

Grand, I'll go back over to them tonight. I bought it for my b'day last April 23rd so I have it less than a year.

I went over to O2 and they said that it was because I had not upgraded the firmware and that I should do this with Samsung Kies. The problem with not receiving calls was due to an antenna problem (she said).

So I installed Samsung Kies and hooked the phone up to it but it would not detect the phone. I did some research on this and it turns out that Kies is a piece of **** and you have to uninstall Kies, then attach your phone and then install kies for it to detect it for the first time.

So I did all this and updated the firmware and lo and behold I was able to receive calls again. Then the phone switched off and back on and asked me to input my PIN which I did but it said that this was wrong and it locked me out and changed the language to German !!!!

I had to bring it to a German speaker in work and ask them what was it asking me to do and I had to input the PUK and then the PIN 3 times and then she changed the language back to english.

However I was still missing all my contacts, which I had saved on the O2 website for webtext.

When I went to O2 to ask to get the synched from the website to my phone I was told that this can't be done which is total BS as if you log in to O2 and go to webtext - contacts and groups you will see there are sections for synching but everything is greyed out.

So I ended up copying all my contacts and numbers and pasting into excel. Tidying it up and saving it as a csv file, then Importing to google contacts and then synching google contacts with my phone.

Phew......I need a lie down after all this :)

Anyway....bottom line.....update your firmware folks...cos the O2 website is not reliable.
