This oneTrying to get something sorted here for the F1 season.
I have the above mentioned receiver which I find has excellent picture >
Can I use it to get RTL from 19deg?
I have a sky dish but also have an older bigger dish still on the wall I used years ago to get signal from 1deg west ( I think )
Can I tune in this dish and use a diseq switch or whatever it is called.?
I have a chance of picking up another humax box as I know I will need one for radio 5 live. ( Or can I tune into this via my laptop > surround sound system?)
Would I use another diseq switch at the back of the receivers to split the signal again??

    Thanks for any help

Yes this should be possible. You need to bring the two cables from both dishes to a diseqc switch and then one cable from the diseqc to the Foxsat.

See here for more info on setting up diseqc on the Foxsat.

    http://www.astra2d.com/diseqc.html

    or here

    http://foxsat.wikispaces.com/diseqc-setup

You can get a diseqc switch from Tony here on boards (satellite.ie)

unless cork becomes part of the UK before the F1 season, you wont get 5 live commentary online as its geo blocked.

So have to get another receiver then for sound.
2nd Diseq at the back of those then to split the cable again I assume?

Would a cheap cheap receiver do for that?

DiSEqC switches aren't splitters. You'll need a separate feed from the 28 east lnb for BBC radio on a 2nd receiver.

I've an app on my phone called TuneIn Radio. I don't think radio 5 is geo blocked through it. I'd have to cheack that to confirm it though. There are other ways of getting around geoblocks.

If you are going down the two receivers option then you will need to wire it this way:

    Box 1
Cable from LNB on sky dish to diseqc switch port A
Cable from LNB on 19E dish to diseqc switch port B
Cable from diseqc to Box 1

    Box 2
A seperate cable from LNB on sky dish to Box 2.

The LNB on the sky dish needs a minimum of two inputs. Most of them have four nowadays.

Balls.. Running the second cable is my problem you see.. It's a no go. Wife wont let me tear up carpets and floorboards upstairs to feed the cable.
Ah well..Looks like hilites for me for some races :(

You dont need to go running any cables if you forget about wiring in the second box.

Just put the diseqc switch outside beside the sky dish and bring the cable from the second dish to the diseqc switch. Then use the existing cable to go from diseqc switch straight to your foxsat box.

All you need to buy is the diseqc switch, a few screw on connectors and the cable to run from one dish to the other. €30 should get what you need if the LNB on the second dish already works.

This brings back good memories for me. When RTE lost the rights to Formula 1 many years ago a I bought a satellite kit to watch it on RTL.

I understand that but how do I connect a second reciever to listen to 5 Live? Or am I gone in to blonde mode :pac:

I'd say use the internet instead of a receiver for 5 live.

A second receiver would be a lot of work just for 5 live.

I don't think the commentary will be in sync with the picture which ever way you do it.

I thought I could not get it via internet??

Only certain programmes are geo locked on five live, like EPL. Using a laptop is the best solution as you can use programmes like "radio delay" to fix the audio sync. Im sure though watching F1 in German isnt the end of the world. I think the BBC still have half the races still?

Have you tried to still get five live on AM 909/693? I can get it still ok even here in Mayo.

As mentioned above its not blocked on TUNEIN RADIO on a smart phone.

Or watch it in your bedroom if its near the dish, connect up when needed, bore a hole in the wall.

There is always a way round.:)

    OK,
Went up this morning to point the dish to 19.2,

Wasn't having much success where I thought it was. Moved it more to the right ( south) and get a good old screeching sound from my sat meter.
Came down and set the receiver to 19.2 and did a search.. Nothing :(

Took a chance on 13 deg, Loads of channels. Perfect arabic ones LOL

    Now
    to get 19.2
I know I have to go basically half way between where it is now and the Sky dish.

But do I rise it or drop it as well? if so.. By how much or should I be getting some signal by just swinging it to the left?

    Cheers

You will need to tilt it and rotate it. There should be a scale on the back of the dish to set the elevation (tilt). Its 24.7 degrees for dublin.

See dishpointer.com and set your location and 19.2 as the satellite and it will give you the correct elevation for your location.

I think you also need to rotate the lnb 10 degrees clockwise. It should be pointing at around 7 on a clock. I hope that makes sense.

    OK, from my house

Elevation for 13. is 27.1 < Hotbird which i have now

    Elevation for 19.2 is 25.1

Elevation for 28.2 is 21.5 < Freesat I have on other dish

Have the LNB skewed to 7pm ;)

On the elevation I am clueless. Do I go up or down?

Should I pick something up if I just move the dish to the left?

It depends where your starting from. There is usually a scale on the back of the dish to show you the elevation angle. Set it to 25 T

Then rotate dish left about halfway between hotbird at 13E and astra2 at 28.2E

You can also get RTL on 13E,
    11054 H DVB-S QPSK 27500 5/6
You may have to search for all channels as it has a money sign, but it is FTA.

So would there be a benefit in trying for 19.2?
Are there any channels like english movie etc?
    or other motorsport ones?

I rather 19E myself, I find it has more sport selection (my own opinion).
    On 19E,
Servus TV - Nascar Sprint Cup series (With english commentary)
    Sport 1
    Eurosport
    Sat 1.

On 13E, you can get the RAI sport 1 and 2 channels from Italy
You can also get English movies on the Iran movie channels (Not great picture quality, generally have to zoom screen, hard to find out whats on)

Arte (France) is on both Hotbird and Astra1, its reported to be in HD on Hotbird, this shows movies in english commentary sometimes.

I find Hotbird has more intresting channels from a large variety of the world.

I have a multi dish set up with both 19E an 13E. FTA
