2005 Santa Fe Issue

    Hi,
Hoping someone can advise me here, I've a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe, fully serviced etc, due one shortly but over all in very good nick.
I had an issue with it last summer where the car would just turn over and over and not start, this was eventually diagnosed, the main relay was faulty, I also blew the starter motor from dry starting it.
Anyway €700+ later the car fixed / serviced and all has been well with it up until yesterday.
The car started turning over but the engine would not kick in, I left it a few mins and tried again, the car started but the engine warning light came on , and again this morning when I tried to start it the same thing happened.
Has anyone any advice as I am completely smashed and am petrified of going to a garage and getting hit with a hefty bill I can't afford this month, it if this had of happened 2 weeks later I'd be able to afford it.

There's a possibility that one or more of the glow plugs is faulty and so the engine is struggling to get up to temperature to start combustion. These plugs are ofte linked into the engine management system of the vehicle fremissions control purposes, so if there was a ault in this systm it would trigger the engine management warning light. First step would be a simple check over of the primary components in the starting system, (battery condition, security of starter and electrical connections, fuses, main relay) then a diagnostic plug in.

Thanks for the reply Azure, how much would this generally cost, as I mentioned in the previous thread I am a little financially challenged for the next couple of weeks, also is it safe to continue driving with the engine light on.
I also forgot to mention it's a 2.0L petrol engine, in order to start it this morning i had to depress a button in the engine on the back right hand side, it is behind the fuse box and sits up on its own with a rubber top on it, can't remember the name of it.

    Thanks,

Sorry I assumed it was one of the diesel lumps in it. The petrol engines dont have glowplugs, so dismiss everything I just said!
That button sounds like the fuel pump reset switch. If the engine management light is illuminated then a diagnostic scan should be your first port of call.

Thanks Pat, nearly drained the battery trying to get it started this evening, had a similar prob last summer and had to get the main relay and starter motor replaced which wasn't cheap, have someone coming to look at it tomorrow evening, any idea how much a chrankshaft sensor costs to be replaced?
