How long before bringing up salary

    Hey there,

    Anyone any ideas regarding when to bring up salary negotiations?

    Happened me before that I did 2 rounds of interviews, got the job but salary was pittance and I couldn't accept.

    I was mad to know as we went along what the salary was going to be but my research at the time was saying I shouldn't bring it up.

    On another occasion I got a call on a Sunday evening from a crowd I had applied to and the only question was what my intended salary was, they said there was no point wasting each others time if the figures weren't close,I found this refreshing and less of a distraction at interview time. Of course after 2 phone interviews, 1 meeting and a presentation I came second!

    Anyway am facing into similar type conundrum now, there are 2 jobs going with one company, 1 higher grade than the other. I would be very strong candidate for lower position but have no interest if salary isn't right (just a case of can't afford a drop in income), I would have a chance of the higher grade but wouldn't be as confident, I'd be able to do it but realistically there are plenty others that would too and have more experience.

    Question is - do I ask them what the respective salary ranges are upfront? Would potentially save a lot of time and basically cuts to the chase. Proving oneself in the interview process can be dealt with

    Any employers out there with a view on what their reaction would be if asked?

    People normally don't mention salary until the very end. Interviews are weird things so I would be inclined to act "normal" and do what everyone else does.

    But I agree with you, you should be able to ask at the start.
