Insurance Question

    Renewal ongoing at the moment.
We don't employ anyone except an Insured contractor.
Do we really need Employers Liability along with Public Liability, then there is Building Insurance included too as standard??

Do people have all three of these as standard, were a small scale operation and 99% of the time it's just me or the brother.

    Any input appreciated

How much extra is employers liability? Was maybe 400e for me last yr and I said no thanks.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

    That's what I'm thinking too.
Have appt today to get breakdown. Just trying to get some info on what others are doing.
Does Public Liability cover an animal going onto the road and someone getting injured? Or just someone coming onto the farm and getting injured?

    Our employers liability is €198.
She's to come back to me with a better price. She seemed confident they could do better.
Currently with fbd, has anyone found it cheaper to go to Aviva?

Went wit aviva last yr they were overall 1000 cheaper normally with fbd but they seem to throw a figure out there n if you pay it well n good, they did come down when I went bck to them but that annoyed me so gave it to aviva to teach them a lesson

Who owns the land? 99% of the time its me and the brother. Does this mean that one of your parents is the owner, or is it you, or the brother?

Contractor has insurance. Thats nice. That really only covers his employees if he has EL and his PL any damage he causes to non employees. His motor insurance covers his machines.

You need PL lest you incur a liability from a member of the public. If an animal strays onto the road, a tree falls on a car, or a member of the public is injured on your lands, then if you are legally liable, the PL looks after you.

You need EL is you have any employee or indeed a family member helping you, subject to to policy terms.

Yes we'll probably end up keeping both EL & PL..
Hopefully they'll come back with a better price..

    Every farmer should have EL

Aviva do NOT provide EL (at least they didn't 4 years ago when I went through their small print) also their forestry cover was joke

It also pays to shop around with different FBD offices. I changed after being 30 in 1 branch when I found the new manager impossible to deal with (she most likely though likewise but didn't take too kindly to losing business)

have said it here before, for the sake of a few hundred euro, you are covered, alot handier than you having to pay out millions in a settlement , me thinks

Aviva do provide EL cover. You must pay for it and there are family exclusions, as is common with many, but not all, insurers.

does EL cover non farm related issues such as tradesmen working on a dwelling house renovation.

Not with FBD anyway, I checked this a few years ago and had to take out separate cover.

I don't have employers liability either. I think the last time I enquired, it was over €600 through AVIVA.
Somebody said on here recently in another thread, that you really should have E/L. What if you have say a neighbour goving you a hand with a calving etc, and gets hurt? wouldn'y you want cover!

Another question. How many people have comprehensive insurance on the tractor? It adds a good bit to the cost. I only have fire and theft.

depends how much the tractor is worth. my fe35 wouldnt take any notice if it went on fire, my main tractor would be a different story so that has to be comprehensive. Anyway got separate quotes for 3 of the vehicles and they were more expensive so looks like im stuck with FBD, yes its allot of money but I know im fully covered.
