I have a Saorview TV to which I have connected an old (Sky Digibox) satellite receiver.

When I want to view the FTA channels I have to use the remote control that came with the box and for Saorview I use the remote that came with the TV.

Is that because I have just set up the thing in a hamfisted way -or is it the nature of the beast?

If (as I intend ) I get a new Freesat HD Satellite Receiver/Recorder will it be possible to have the whole thing run off the one remote control?

Can't you programme the Sky remote to work your tv?

It does work the TV -but only when the Sky based channels are showing on the screen.
And even then I have to use the other remote that came with the TV to change the volume...
Until now I was using an old rented TV and I was hoping that the new TV I have just bought would solve the problem (that's not why I bought it) but the setup seems to be the same basically.

The (Sky) remote that works the set top box is pretty old (10 years?) -maybe it is not able to be programmed ?

TvTrade have done a fairly comprehensive guide on programming your sky remote to operate your tv. http://www.tvtrade.ie/sky-remote-codes.html

However you should know this will only cover the basic functions like volume, putting on standby etc which may be all you're looking for. Using the saorview tv listings menu (epg) will probably still require the tv remote for full functionality.
