Just wanted to compare current package holiday costs V DIY for two adults & two kids somewhere in Europe

Haven't done or researched a package holiday in a while for a few reasons. For the last few years our two week July / Aug DIY holiday has cost in or around 2.6K, for 2.6K I get,

Return flights, good standard accomodation, airport transfers, insurance, airport parking & one night in an airport hotel if needed

Add spending money then on top of that,

So for a similar size group & travel months, how much are your package holidays coming in at this year?

We decided last October to head to Lanzarote at fairly short notice. We normally holiday around the Cote d'Azur but with a two year old decided to head somewhere a little more kid friendly.

We checked packages and most were coming out in excess of €2,200, so decided to just book it all myself.

Flew Ryanair, stayed 14 nights in Costa Sal in Matagorda.

    Costs:
Flights €680, including all charges, luggage etc
    Accomm: €686
    Airport transfers by taxi: €30
Car Park: €52.50 (stay two weeks, pay for one in DAA)
Insurance: €69 (although that's an annual policy, so a bit unfair to count it on one trip)

    So total was €1517.50

Granted that's October, but it gives a good idea of how much can be saved by spending a bit of time looking for stuff yourself.

Don't forget, a package doesn't include your insurance or your carparking. Some tour operators are even cheeky enough to charge for coach tranfer to accommodation!

FWIW, we're actually thinking of doing that again this year as it was such a laid back holiday to take with an infant.

Great price for a two week holiday,

Oct isn't great for me for two weeks with two in school so stuck(ish) with July & Aug....will check out a package for next year though just out of interest
