    Hi folks,
Was asked to look at laptop running XP,was running slow so done a disk clean up but didn't gain much but noticed c&d drives are half&half & c is nearly full.
Can i just go into disk management & expand c/shrink d to gain more space on the c drive?
    Cheers

Before you go repartitioning, are the user's My Documents stored on C:? If there is enough space, maybe you could change the My Documents location to D: and move user data over there instead.

Download WinDirStat, that'll tell you where the offending files are, then just clean up, also download Spybot searh and destroy or malwarebytes do an update and scan, you'd be surprised the difference this can make.

Prefer Spacemonger to Windirstat but ya they are a great way of seeing used space and large files...

    Is there a pagefile used?
    On C:\ ?

If so you can stop using it or move it to D:\

Before you tinker with resizing partitions, create a backup of all important files!

Anyway, it's a lot easier (and indeed safer) to move the "big stuff" (photos, music, videos) to a new folders on the D drive. This handy little tool will alow you to easily redirect such folders without fiddling in the registry.

Also a good clean up will help a lot. Ccleaner does a pretty good job. Deleting uninstall information of Windows Updates is also an option. If you don't use hibernation, disable it in the power settings, this will free up space equal to your system memory.

No, you can't move the Windows folder to the D drive. What you can do, delete the content of the TEMP folder inside the Windows folder. Ditto all uninstall information for Windows Updates. Those folder are hidden, you may have to change your file and folder view settings in order to see them. (you can safely delete any folder starting with $NtUninstall inside Windows but do not touch the folder $hf_mig$)

You can move the entire folder My Documents to the D drive, then open the Start Menu, right click My Documents > Properties, click the button Move and navigate to D:, highlight My Documents and apply the new settings.
