Hi could some one give me an insight into this? What kind of things would you need to be interested to do multimedia? I'm not interested in photography at all only sound/video production radio maybe, computers etc. And would the communication studies course be better?thanks

While you do everything in first year (including photography) you specialise in second year.

Take a read of http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056508889 to see us discussing it a few weeks ago, and search the forums for much more discussion.

Theres currently a lot of changes and a bit of reshuffling going on in the Multimedia course has changed a bit since I started (I'm a third year) but I did very little photography, and only in first year. You're want to have a good interest in computer to do it because your using them a lot (Macs mainly).
If your interested in technology production Multimedia is better for you than communications, which I believe has a lot more modules on general theory relating to the media.

Thanks, ya i do think the practical side of multimedia rather than the general theory would suit me better. When you specialize in second year and finish the degree are you specialized enough in one thing or is it rather dragged out and eventually wasting time?

In its current form your not that specialised, but you've gotten tons of experiences with all aspects of creative digital media. But you do choose in second year between Video, Audio and imaging.

The shuffles that are being made at the moment will make the course FAR better, and it is already a huge amount of fun.

One thing to be careful of is the amount of hours that you have each week. It is barely anything. If you just coast through the time only doing the bare minimum, you will come out with very few skills that somebody would hire you for. You have to really take part in society life and do your own projects.

Any idea what the audio modules are like?
