Check Engine Light 03 Ford Fiesta

I have a 03 1.3l Ford Fiesta with 98k Miles on the clock. Did a round trip of about 400miles of motorway driving today, and about 50 miles before home, I got the solid check engine light in the dash. The car has been shuddering intermittently, it seems like there is some sort of misfire, is it possible that this is a coil pack? I haven't had the car long so I don't know how long this has been going on for. The car drives fine other than that and I didn't really think about the shuddering or misfiring until the light came on.

Is there anything else it could be? If it is the coil pack, how much roughly would I be looking at paying to get it sorted?

Also, I have to get to the opposite end of Dublin tomorrow morning at 8am and public transport is not an option, will the car be ok to drive over and back tomorrow?

Its the 1.25 engine? If so then coilpack is pretty common alright.

I'd avoid driving it until its sorted as you'll just be doing more damage.

It's a 1.3 engine. Would it be safe to drive it as far as my mechanics? He is based in Swords, I am in Clontarf.

Turns out it was a problem on the catalytic converter - I can't exactly remember what he said, but it was something about the threshold being too low. He said if it happens again the cat may need to be replaced.

If it happens again tell him to test the second oxygen sensor before he slips in a new cat. A bad sensor can throw up a code like that. Takes 5 minutes to test an oxygen sensor.
Big bucks for a new cat.

What did the garage do to fix the intermittent chugging?

I'll be completely honest, I don't really know! He just said it was below a threshold and that was causing the problem. It drives fine now, no more chugging or shaking which is a relief. I assume seeing as this has happened once, that it was a quick fix what was done today (to my relief, I don't have the money to do a big fix right now), and I will have to replace something down the line.

I'm concerned though as I often do round trips from Dublin to Limerick that if this happens again and I'm on the motorway, will I be stuck, as it probably isn't a good idea to keep driving when the check engine light comes on?
