Bus Scoile buses half empty

I seen a Bus Éireann Bus Scoile service leaving Killenaule half empty. It was a big 1999 DAF Vanhool DVS10?? and seemed a real waste of a good bus to be used on schools. But that's not my issue. I was just thinking wouldn't it make sense if some Bus Scoile services were changed to commuter/local services that could still serve schools but also people in rural places along the route. I know there would probably be some child safety concerns on primary school runs, but for post primary services I really don't see why this shouldn't be looked at. There are a number of elderly people living along these bus routes. A service like that would connect them to major towns and bring them back to their doorsteps and bring in some money for Bus Éireann. Not going to be millions of course but a few euros on some routes which they have to run (at a loss) anyway is something.

This is happening, it was announced recently that the system will be overhauled. There's a thread on it in here somewhere.

It is a good idea and technically will cost nothing since the Bus Scoile is an essentially subsidized service any money one could bring in is a good thing. Hoping it happens out here as I often have to pick up elderly people thumbing on the roads and the mornings I aint travelling you wonder are they there waiting ages. I hate to see anybody thumbing along the road.
