    Evening all.

Contemplating another mod for the car, relatively minor one. I know generic ones can be gotten on fleabay, but they can be rare enough at times. So EPM put me on to the idea of fitting one from a Touareg, and I've seen the one linked below:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/150365983970?item=150365983970&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&cmd=ViewItem&hash=item230282d4e2&vxp=mtr

My question is this, inpeoples opinios/ experience, would the above mirror fit the standard miror mount on my 06 Octy? I'm thinking it wont.

ANd if it did fit, how ould I go about wiring it up?

As awlays, all advice/ opinions greatly appreciated.

No idea if it will fit but wiring should be simple. A 12v, ground and remote wire. The 3rd wire might also be connected to the reverse to stop it dimming when in reverse and the 12v would be switched instead. Or it may have 4 wires, not sure about that. Is it hard to find the connector for it? Or else you could just cut the wire back and put your own connector onto it.

If you are retrofitting it you could put the reverse onto a switch as well so you could turn it off if you needed to.

Cheers Ger. The reason I asked about the wiring, is because in one of the pics, there appears to be a small little black connector block.

That's just the minimum for a lot of them to work. Well it was with mine anyway. Mine was first day in the car but I'm looking at putting in the digital compass. Some of them are connected to the door open module as well so they turn off the dimming when the door is opened.

But if you could figure out those 3 wires I'm sure it would work for you.

For a 7 series but I'm sure you get the idea. Is there any other Vag car that has that mirror? I can't find anything about retrofitting it to a Touareg. Just the side mirrors.

Looks the exact same to me, but you get a little doohickey sensor of some sort. And rubber gromits to hide the wiring. And more wiring to work with. Colour might be wrong.

@Jer, most of the cars with auto lights/wipers have it, but to retro fit that is a hell of alot more bother. Reason being the mounting bracket on the windscreen has to be replaced. And to do that is more a windscreen replacement jobbie.

EPM put me onto the Toaureg one because it has wee LED ambient lights onthe bottom of it, which is kind of a nice feature.

What about keeping your own mount and swapping the mirror itself. As in just pop the ball out of the socket if you can?

Noob questions, but may as well ask em..

Does the mirror dim in response to light hitting it from the rear, or based on ambient light level?

If ambient light level, then it would be handy to undim it when car is put into reverse gear such as reversing into a parking space in a poorly lit car park.

My yok has none of these fancy gubbins, unfortunately.

They have a sensor front and read. Look at the link chuck put up. You can see a hole in the back of the mirror. And 2 at the bottom of the front(I presume they are the sensors, BMW's have a black patch in the middle/top of the glass.

When the light from the front is darker than the back it dims the mirror. They are all connected to the reverse light which acts as a kill switch too.

I think it will be expensive and difficult and you would really need to go for the auto lights and wipers, replacing the windscreen, a couple of control modules no doubt, light switch, wiper stalk, some dealer svm coding (depending on the car) and some simple vagcom coding.
