Dog License, Barrier Question and a nice Garda

I keep getting a renewal form for a dog that died 2 years ago, I've phoned to tell them the dog is dead, they said ''that's grand'', then I still get a letter to renew.

Will I just ignore it, does it just keep circling 'the big computer in the big office.'

What does the dog license go towards, not a debate question, genuinely asking, because it's gone up to 20yoyo.

Also, in relation to 'the nice garda' I was stopped at a routine check point for tax etc and had the GSD in the back of the jeep, his head was between the seats. The rottie pup was asleep on the passenger seat.

Low and Behold, the neon, navy Lego man stopped me:eek:,

Garda says...Lovely dogs, but do you know I can fine you €80, take your dogs and put points on your license, and that's before we mention the lack of muzzles.(do I really need muzzles on in the jeep!) At least I had the muzzle for the GSD on the floor.
I said, I normally have the car but would you believe, I'm on the way to the pet shop to buy the barrier right now.:pWith my best angelic smile attached. He said grand, don't let me see you without a barrier again and present to my local garda station with a barrier in place.

I ordered an adjustable barrier that'll do the various vehicles I drive, getting it tommorow, but, when we were checking the jeep at the pet shop, they said if you just tie them off in the back of the car/jeep, that'll do either.

I also have a little car I use that has hooks on the floor, can I just tie off the smaller dogs in that.

Do you all use barriers, or just tie them in, I usually only travel 5 mins down the road to the beach, but I know an accident can happen anywhere. My old rottie will actually sit with the safety belt on.

Also, my previous GSD went berserk when we put a barrier in the same jeep, he was fine initially, without the barrier, but, it drove him mad, barking insanely to get into the front with me, despite never travelling up front, do you need to introduce a barrier in a certain way to a dog. He seemed to be terrified of the oncoming traffic and would jump on me. I had to stop travelling with him.

There is no specific legal requirement to have dogs secured or barriered while in the vehicle. And definitely no requirement to have them muzzled while travelling in the vehicle. They only must be muzzled in a public place.

Sounds like the Garda was just trying to frighten you. He had no legal power to seize the dogs or issue points for having them unsecured in the vehicle.

However, I'm sure there is something he could charge you with for not having the dogs secured, as that quite obviously does pose a hazard while driving.

My Staffie is usually just harnessed onto the passenger seat.

Really? Does this go for all dogs? Is it enforced or is it one of these laws they can whip out if and when appropriate?

The man done his job so;), forgot I have a seat belt harness for rottie. I'm going to do the same with JRT.

http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/1991/en/si/0123.html Just 11 breeds while in a public area. It depends what area your in, some garda and dog wardens seem to enforce it, others turn a blind eye. Stupid law anyways as it doesn't protect against attacks by other breeds, and targets the wrong group of people.
