How many points can they take off for you?
Is this applicable for all courses?
    Including Med and Vet?

bear in mind you really do need to be something special to get one of them, those conditions of eligibility are quite vague, for instance in GAA more than half of the freshers A team players would be at under 21s intercounty level, and practically the whole UCD 21's starting rugby team play or have played provincial under 21s, the competition is fierce.

    Thanks for that.
The sporting ability required is outlined however the academic ability required is not.
    Any info on this?

As far as I know, some slight allowances are made in terms of if you want a course that requires x amount of points, but get the Ad Astra Elite Sporting doo-hickey, you can get into the course with a bit less than x. I very much doubt it'd be that much less than x though, particularly in overly-competitive courses to get into, like Vet/Med/etc.

I can't find the official documentation on it, but there is little allowance made, if the standard entry requirements are not met. AS highlighted above, competition is fierce, and unless you are unbelievably talented you'll still have to get the X points in the LC.

I actually heard the allowance was quite significant. Tbh I'd heard that all that was required for most courses was passing the LC.

Any truth that the allowance could be 10% if needed???

Quite significant for the really competitive courses (approx 50 points reduction?)

i got in negative 75 points .. one of the other lads got in without passing maths. Dont ask names , we will all know him, its down to your quality from my opinion, at least from a rugby pov.

Not 100% sure what the case is now, but when it was set up a few years back basically the LC doesn't directly come into it in all cases. Part of the thinking was that elite athletes could have accepted offers from the States before even doing their LC, so the idea was that for a very strict number of people, they would be offered a course before their LC results (but having reviewed grades in school and be confident that they would be able to get the points required (but in some cases they would actually end up getting lower points than they would have needed otherwise.

Places for this were to be limited per course (e.g. medicine would be limited to one), and I'd say that not all of the elite athletes would have availed of the pre-admission and got the points etc.

That's what the plan was when it was being brought in initially - it may well have had a few changes since.

I see UCC have started a similar scheme.
UCC advertise on their website that the points required can be reduced by up to 10%.
