Using a Diseq switch and aerial combiner

    Hi all.

I have a quick technical conumdrum for the Sat-literate among you ;)

I want to run two satellite dishes pointing at Astra 1 & 2 respecively, and connect both into a Diseq switch. I then want to run the combined output from the Diseq switch through a combiner which will then (hopefully) allow me to run the diseq switched dishes and a Saorview aerial together. And finally, this combination of two dishes and one aerial will then be diplexed at a wall socket back to SAT & TV feeds.

I've attached a diagram of sorts to explain what I want to do. The objective of the exercise is to reduce the amount of cabling needed in combining the feeds from two SAT dishes and the Saorview aerial.

Is this an achievable solution with the equipment I've proposed, or does it require the use of more complex / expensive set-up?

    Hi,

Yes I do something similar this for one of my rooms where there was only 1 cable going from attic. I've the diseqc switch and aerial going into a diplexer and then at the other end have another diplexer to split the feed.

There was a thread on here a while back about someone using a wall plate at the far end instead of a diplexer.

Can you not combine both sat's into one aswell ?

You don't need separate dishes for Astra 1 & 2. One dish with 2 lnbs will work fine, something like a zone 2 Sky dish or "normal" 80cm.

That still implies two down leads, does it not?

Only as far as the DiSEqC switch (for single tuner receivers).

And that is exactly what my solution proposes too!

My question really is: can I use a combiner / DiSEqC switch / wall plate in the fashion I outlined?

    Shouldn't be a problem.

Yes u can it will work no problem but make sure you use good quality RG6 or ct100 cabling if possible from dish to combiner to help keep away any inference.

That's not a good idea. RG6 usually has aluminium screening, has higher attenuation than copper foil cable and won't last long outdoors.

CT100 hasn't been manufactured since 2005 so anything called "CT100" is likely to be a cheap substitute.

Look for WF100 or TX100 instead.

    Thanks for the advice everyone!

So far, so good. I've set up the combiner , DiSEqC switch and wall plate on the Astra 2 dish. Testing the switching mode on the receivers DiSEqC modes confirms that I am switching the DiSEqC correctly between both inputs.

The next move is to mount, align and connect the 1A dish and take it from there.

Will keep you all posted. ;)
