    Hi

I am hoping someone here will be able to help me. My partner and Ii have been hit bad by the recession, we currently are jus scraping by however he has been offered a very good and well paid job in Austraila, the only problem I have is my two beautiful dogs. I cannot and will not leave them behind but at the moment I do not have the thousands it costs per dog to take them with us. I was hoping that there might be someone out there willing to take the dogs for a few months while we saved the money.

I have asked every member of both our families but as they are quite big dogs (both boxers) noone will take them. As I said I will not simply 'give them away' which has been suggested many times, they are part of my family.

    Any advice is really appreciated.

if you're going to be on VERY GOOD MONEY in Oz why not take a loan to pay for your dogs flights and pay back once you start in your new job ? bank ? parents ? friends ?

also what do u call long time. if months do you think it would be fair to get your dogs settled with someone then up route them again. also if in foster are you going to be paying for their board food vet bills etc. if yes this will add up as you know and will prob make saving harder. if no cant see anyone doing it. as you said times are hard and not many would take them on and fork out for the care of the dogs. as someone already posted i would try and get a loan and bring them with me. good luck with what ever you decide

A few post have been up her recently looking for people to foster long term, not sure how they got on.

I think the loan is a good idea, or would you not consider staying and letting your husband go ahead and get settled and you follow when you have dogs sorted.

Also what if he does not like the job?

We have been looking after our friends Staffy for 8 months , he is being shipped to Dubai in the next couple of weeks. I do know of a girl who took her 2 dogs with her to Oz , im not sure of the costs yet, but will let you know if we find out.

    Thanks for all the replies.

Having looked into the costs of bringing them with us it works out roughly €4500 per dog, there is no one in my family that I could borrow that kind of money from. I am also a bit reluctant to put them through the stress of travelling and quarantine if, as RubyGirl rightly suggested, the job does not work out so would prefer to go out first for a few months to get a feel for it and find somewhere suitable for us.

If someone was willing to look after them I would of course pay for all costs for the time I was away.

I know it is alot to ask of someone and probably have very little chance of anyone willing to do it but I want to try every other possibility before going down the rehoming route.

How long would it take to decide if the job was going to work out?

If only a few weeks you could kennel them and use those few weeks to build up enough savings to have them shipped over to you.

It's a horribly hard decision I'm sure, I know if it was me, I wouldn't be able to leave them. :(
