Garmin 500 From Taiwan?

    There are Garmin 500's available on ebay from Taiwanese sellers at very good prices.

    According to the description "some" Chinese characters remain in the English menu and interface.
    Could you download Garmin 500 software from the Garmin website to override the Chinese characters?

    I never noticed any chinese characters on the unit itself(display menus/activities etc) but when connected to garmin training centre there are Chinese symbols next to the speed zones

    Looking at the garmin forums it looks like there was an firmware update out last week (ver 2.8 for taiwanese units) that may correct that issue. Not a bad price - but is it so much cheaper that it's worth the punt over Handtec prices?

    I felt, it wasn't worth while taking the chance on the chinese characters.
    If you do decide to go for it, give me a shout and I'll give you the Disc and quick start manual, which I have in English.

    I have one and the Chinese characters are really not an issue, Im not even going to bother with a firmware upgrade because its never been a problem during use. I have yet to come across any Chinese using the actual 500, only saw it in the pc software which was for 1 item which doesnt cause a problem.

    I have an Ebay Chinese 500. No Chinese text anywhere on menu,s. Heading direction meant to be the only thing that is in Chinese. 500 doesn't have proper mapping so never use it anyway.
