Any idea what the fuel consumption of a 1999 2.4L diesel VW Transporter vs 2005 petrol Mondeo would be like?

Currently driving a transporter and wondering what I could expect if I got a mondeo?

I'd guess that on country roads / motorways mondeo will be better.
In the urban driving, mondeo will be worse...

Also depends which mondeo? There are many engines, starting at 1.8 and above.

Sorry its a 1.8 mondeo. Jaysus that's mad, never thought the transporter would ever be better than it. Transporter is a lwb too

I currently drive a 1.8 Mondeo and I average about 35 mpg but that is about 95% motorway driving. Around town and on short journeys it is a lot heaver on petrol.

I guess that both vehicles will be +/- 20% same in terms of fuel economy.
