Moving to Galway soon - what Letting Agencies in Galway are generally recommended, hoping to live in city centre or west side of city.
Any advice / comments would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

A general rule of thumb for renting anywhere in Ireland... don't use a Letting Agent. But seeing as you asked, Galway Accom. Agency on Forster Street, Galway Property Management in Dominick Street and Property Services on Prospect Hill.

Check out some of the threads about these and other companies.

You can't beat meeting the landlord (good, bad or indifferent). Check out ads on www.daft.ie or www.galwayadvertiser.ie

Did you check out any of the older threads?
    This one is good
As for agencies, some good some less good. I've been mostly with private owners so no hassle there. Was with GPM and had no major issues, not the fastest to respond sometimes but in general fine.
Usually you sign for a year, private or not. Make sure to take snaps of everything before you move in. Agree with agency/owner on what was there when you moved in.
