Absolutely shocking. Thankfully a group of locals intervened to save at least part of the cemetery.

A sad depressing state of affairs.
These were men that fought on Libyan soil and gave their last breath of life to see it also free.
Those involved should be ashamed of themselves.

And so...the Islamists are on the rise.

...Or more so unappreciative thoughtless extremist thugs under the guise of using religion as a reason?

Islamic numbers may rise just as Catholic or even any others may increase.
That don't make that increase necessarily a bad thing - only the extremists within each one that abuse their religion to justify their stupid of action, that is bad.

    Interesting.

No mention of a whole country being vandalised yet

This is what I was referring to.

I remember a year or two ago I worked with a Muslim man and we used to talk about things like this, specifically the destruction of the historic Buddhist statues in Afghanistan which he said he supported despite me arguing that it was a pointless destruction of thousands of years of history, not unlike destroying the old Celtic cross monuments here.

He argued that the same would have to happen here if Ireland was ever to become a majority Islamic country, as many Muslims find the signs of other religions offensive and contrary to the belief that there is only one God, that being Allah.

Any time I see a story like this, it resonates with me because this man was what most people would count as an ordinary moderate and well educated Muslim.

is anyone really surprised by this

Quathaffi warned us that these lads were hardline islamic extremists hell bent on replacing the secular States of North Africa with Dogmatic Theocracies.

But they were also willing to give away Libyas resoursces Temporarily to secure their position,so the 'Western Powers' assisted them in their Revolution. this is already comig back to bite them in the arse and the new regiemes havent even gotten started on their Islamification of the region

Well then he should **** off back to 500 years ago or Saudi Arabia.

The West got well and truly conned by the Libyan rebels. A couple of them might be reasonable in their outlook but I don't the rest of them are, not by a long shot.

A shame how this makes worldwide news, yet the ongoing capture, executions, lynching and torture of black Libyans hardly gets a mention in the mainstream. There is a reason just about every credible human rights group has, since the end of the war, accused the former rebels of the same crimes they attributed to Qaddafi, (eg: medicines sans frontiers pulling out of Libya after being forced to patch up torture victims so that the rebels could continue torturing them.)

Libya is a now a fractured country, the tribal lines are being redrawn, extremists are emerging. I hope they can pull it together.

    Shocking !!

But this is what happens when a countries domestic affairs have been interfered with. I can see Libya going backwards which is exactly what some who got involved really wanted.

Not just say blankly that, on the whole a certain religion is increasing - that implies (intentional or unintentional) that its the religion on the whole that is responsible.

The link provided above does not mention 'extremism' - just mentions a whole religion as a group.

Had your words instead had said:
And so...the catholics are on the rise.

    Or
And so...the protestants are on the rise.

...it equally implies everyone within a group religion - which I feel is rather unfair and makes out that all are bad - which is not the case.

I point out the above Sindri with the greatest of respect, not to be argumentative or to irritate you, just for further clarity and to be fair to the peace loving people of the Islam religion too. :)

Unfortunately all religions have these mindless thugs who masquerade behind the flag of religion. They are most certainly not unique to Islam. Tragic to think, that these graves had been so well looked after and respected for decades.

Oh really? Shameful acts of violence and desecration is hardly surprising?

Nothing more than more proof of the creeping destructive malaise. BEWARE.

I don't think Corvus Maximus would disagree with you - only that additionally the culprits in this case are hiding behind any excuse they can see fit at their time, given their low mentality, their low obvious understanding of event their own countries history and lack of appreciation for those that fought and died so they (or their parents more so) could be more free from Nazi tyranny.

I think that applies in most islamic countries.

They get a taste of freedom and then go tribal.

I don't think there will ever be real peace/freedom in any country run by religion.

    ...And others didn't?
Just don't infer (intentionally or unintentionally) that some Islam folk were/are the only one's that might have done this.

Lest we forget rather too quick in convenience to slur just a single religion, what other religions has done in mass terror and killings too!

    No argument there from me.

    No worries.
    We live and learn. :)

They are broad encompassing whole terms for a religion.

...Which also might like other religions, sadly have extremes within them also - and lord knows on both sides of religions up the north at one long stage, we learned about such things - yet we did not hold the whole accountable religion responsible for the actions of the few (extremes).
At least the sensible and educated one's at the time of the troubles didn't. We knew better.

Why are you apologising for Biggins not understanding the term you used? Or is it a sneaky fake-apology complete with faux shame-face smiley to try make him look like an eejit?

Ah lads in fairness. A gang of scumbags desecrated some Allied war graves.... allied cemetaries in Western Europe have been desecrated many a time in recent years... not to mention boozed up young lads píssing all over a commemoration piece... in the UK.

All of which adds to to the saying "Two wrongs, don't make a right!"
