Latin books for Inter Cert, late 60s

Does anyone remember the titles of the Latin school books used late 60s, early 70s for the Inter Cert or where I could find this information? I've tried Chapters, Hodges Figgis, etc. and they couldn't help. Amazon have Latin books, but I don't know if they are the ones I want.

    Thanks

    'Latin for Today'.

I think the crest and text was red on the first book and possibly the blue one (below) was for the Leaving. The image below is from Amazon.

Edit: I'm a bit confused by this remark of yours....

So how are you going to know if you've found the right book? I assume that back in the 60s there was more than one Latin book covering the Inter syllabus.

Thanks Coylemj. I've no idea how I will know, but I'm going to talk to a friend later who is a secondary school teacher and he would have done latin at school. He is a few years older than me so I'll describe the crest and see if he remembers it. If I make progress, I'll let you know.:)

You're welcome. On delving a bit more into the distant memories from the deep recesses of my ever feeble brain, I recall that we had a Folens book dealing with the basics of Latin grammar (Amo, Amas, Amat etc.) and we then progressed to the red (book one) 'Latin for Today' which contained a combination of a description of everyday life in ancient Rome as well as examples of Latin prose intended for translation into English by the student.

Thanks again Coylemj. My friend said he remembered Latin for today 1, 2 & 3, so we must be on the right track. But yes I also remember the amo amas amat as well. My trouble is I didn't actually learn Latin at school. My older sisters did and my Uncle used to be teaching them during the summer and I picked it up in the background. So then he started teaching me as well. He had me up to the inter cert level when he passed away. I was 12 then. The secondary school I went to didn't teach Latin, so I never got to use it. Recently I decided to take up classes and I'd be really keen to get my hands on the books that my Uncle used to teach me. Sounds like Latin is rarely taught these days in school which seems to be a real shame. Anyway, its late now and thanks again for all the info.

I believe Latin is taught in Gonzaga college, maybe you could contact them and ask which books they use and who stocks them.

Contact details at the foot of their home page....

I remember that book well (the cover more than the content , alas !) . '77 to '79 Inter Cert - I think we only did books one and two ..

The books currently used are listed on the ncaa website in their syllabus .pdf download . Link

    Happy if I helped :)

As I recall now the reason we only did books 1 and 2 of Latin For Today is because the school I was in stopped teaching Latin at the end of my second year - no doubt this is of no use or interest to you , Monsclara but if I dont write it down somewhere I'll forget it again :o

Dead right ... ancient greek would have been far more useful, who the **** threw that out?

PS. Mind you, it was useful for understanding some of the jokes in the Life Of Brian ...
