    He had such an incredible influence on shaping the Star Wars universe. I was only reading a feature on him in one of my old Insider magazines the other day. RIP Ralph.

    Awh this has ruined my day! McQuarrie along with John Mollo and Joe Johnston gave the Star Wars universe 3 dimensions. I have a book 20+ years old called "The Art Of The Empire Strikes Back" and so many of the designs in that book are credited to him. Lucas wrote the scripts but these artists gave them life.

    Seriously guys, google his artwork. He designed Vader's suit. He designed the Taun Taun. R2 and C3P0.

    R.I.P. Ralph.

    After his death George Lucas responds:
    "His genial contribution, in the form of unequalled production paintings, propelled and inspired all of the cast and crew of the original Star Wars trilogy. When words could not convey my ideas, I could always point to one of Ralph's fabulous illustrations and say, 'do it like this'
