    Here's a technical question for boards.ie people.

I have a flat in Portugal and I want to buy a Freesat HD box to allow me receive english speaking TV. I'm going over there at the end of March and wouldlike to get this sorted.

Are the Freesat boxes that can be bought here in Ireland the same as those used in Portugal? Where's the best place to buy one here? And whilst I don't want to suggest that your advice will be inaccurate, I'd prefer somewhere that will take it back if it doesn't work!!! :o

    Thanks....

A freesat box will work in Portugal, you'll need a bigger dish than the one you use in Ireland. As an example, look at all the bars over there that have Sky.Same setup except they use a Skybox & card which is brought over from here.

    Thanks for the reply.

I should have said... there is a dish already on the roof and I know another apartment has got Freesat HD.

Because I'm absolutley useless when it comes to electronics, I just wonder can it be as simple as buying a freesat box and plugging it into connection in wall and into tv?

I don't want state of the art satellite, because I'm only there a few weeks every year. would something cheap & cheerful like a Humax do the job? Or is there any other brand that people would recommend?

And finally, where's the best place to buy?

Suggestion: If you have an active sky subscription i'd suggest you buy a second hand sky box off ebay. Circa €25. Then if /when you are on your Hols in portugal and you bring your sky card with you and insert it in your sky box in portugal you will receive RTE, tv3 etc..(You will not get premium channels on 2nd box)
If you do not have sky already just get a freesat box. One can be bought new on amazon from circa £35 incl delivery.

Even if you forget to bring the card, the skybox will still pick up the free channels.

I have a sky box but I don't have sky subscription. Does it mean that all I have to do is bring out an old Sky box? Do I need to know codes or anything like that?

Givecredit.... Does the freesat box not have to be HD?
