Hi all, I am looking to import an AEG from a store based in San Marino, where do I stand legally on this one? I have heard lots of input on the subject most of which is conjecture, can anyone give me a definitive answer as to whether I can legally import one? Thanks in advance!

It is against the law as written, but the law is not being enforced currently.

You'll probably get stung for customs and other charges for around 30% of value. There's a small chance it'll get siezed ans/or destroyed.

There is no definitieve answer. Welcome to Ireland.

I have imported several guns from China and two from Poland (Within the EU so no bothers there)

If you are importing abroad you MUST make sure that the gun is downgraded to below 1j, also as said above me 99% of the time you are charged ridiculous shipping and then
    23% VAT and 'handling fees'.

TBH if you can get the gun from within the EU do, you won't be charged any fees.

Unless i am wrong, San Marino is not an EU state but is classed as a microstate. It uses the Euro and is considered part of the EU customs bloc so you shouldn't have to pay any vat on purchases from there.

Well then by all means buy it from there if it's cheap.

To OP - May I ask for the store's website?

The most important thing to do is to take every step possible to ensure it is firing under 1 joule to avoid any problems.

Customs seem to be getting tighter as of late - I am hearing of more and more people having gear stopped and sent off for testing. Some of this is 'Friend of a friend', others are first hand...so do take it with a pinch of salt.

Importing gear is fine at the moment, and the law is definitely not enforced regarding importation restrictions...but they are getting a little more cautious. I bought some gear in November, and got a phone call from customs asking for my import license :D

It is Safarasoftair indeed, has anyone ever ordered from them? If so any good?

I have imported 4 aeg's and a gbb pistol, none sent for testing. One mate has imported 2 aeg, both coming in way over legal limit (he asked and paid for downgrades), none sent for testing. A teammate has imported 3-4 aegs, 2 pistol, none sent for testing. I'm not saying it won't happen but its highly unlikely. Believe it or not, customs do have bigger fish to fry. Once you have correspondence asking for aeg to be downgraded, stating our legal limits for aegs and receipt for works done(downgrade) then you have nothing to worry about. Make sure to always pay with paypal too, any unforeseen problems, you have right to open a dispute.
