    Hi Guys,
Just wondering does anyone know what is going on with Aertel? I've had a few minor complaints about it recently regarding how slow they are to update stories and football results but today has really annoyed me. I went to read the News and found that none of the headlines match any of the stories! All the news stories are from 29 Feb!
I have noticed this is happening quite a llot just recently. I know Aertel isn't a big deal for some people but it is part of the "channels and services" on Saorview that they advertise. I feel that Aertel is being overlooked and as such is rather shoddy.

You have access to the Internet so can post to this forum, why would you bother with Aertel? It was always a laggard in terms of currrent news, the people who updated it seemed to go home at 6 p.m. and nothing happened until the next day so I'd never rely on it for news.

I was going out and wanted to quickly read the news before i left, but instead of just getting Aertel up i had to turn on my PC and it was while i was doing that that i posted in here. I can understand them being slow to update the news but all their stories listed are from Feb 29th, that is hardly acceptable.

Agree that it's unacceptable but I'd say it's losing money cause I can't imagine it's an attractive advertising medium for anyone these days. It's probably used most in pubs looking up racing results for customers!

I think At the Races fulfills that function nowadays! After October RTÉ and TG4 will be the only major broadcasters in the UK & Ireland maintaining a traditional EBU teletext service (or at least any more than a skeleton service) and while they don't seem to have plans to close it post-switchover (possibly because of the high usage of cable and satellite in this country and the fact that Digital Aertel is Saorview only) I don't know how long they plan on going with it.

It's the digital (saorview) teletext that's showing different headlines to the actual stories, the stories are all from 29/2 but i think the headlines are from thursday or friday. Rooted out the old indoor aerial and plugged it into the tv in the bedroom, that's showing todays news no problem. So it must be an issue with the saorview teletext.

I would imagine Aertel's news stories are created, inserted and updated from the same input as the website - this technology existed at least 8 years ago when I was researching it for someone.

Its still extremely common to put the lotto numbers or football results up on a secondary TV in pubs.

Also believe some rural bookies still use it to send odds to their stores?

The MHEG Aertel has a habit of getting frozen in time, when it launched it seemed to be updated every few days at most.

I've noticed this too. The new saorview text is not as up to date as the old teletext.

This is noticeable for live soccer scores, etc

I was sure I read somewhere that RTÉ had bought software that accomodated the updating of both EBU text and Digital Aertel text simultaneously?

Racing UK still has traditional teletext - I think there are the only other broadcaster on digital other than RTE nowadays to have so
