I got a Dell studio 1537 laptop 3 years ago. Working fine until yesterday when i tried to start it nothing happens...no fan/nothing.

Tried the general remove battery/ hold down power button test. Again nothing happen.

When i plug the ac adaptor into the laptop, the led light on the laptop goes on for a second and then goes off. AC adaptor is working fine though. Tried from another AC jack and nothing again.

Im thinking the problem is the AC connection on the laptop or a motherboard problem.

    Anyone have any advice?

Could the power jack connector on the laptop be broken? I know that some Dells had that problem.

Sometimes the DC connector into which you plug your power cord on the laptop can be the issue. Sometimes these break of the motherboard and sometimes the connection just wears and gets a bit loose.

The most common problem of all is the power cord itself, the end of which you push into the laptop. just behind the molded end is a common place for a breakage. But as you say your happy enough thinking this is ok. So you have to think that the problem is on board.

If the DC connector is broken you should be able to feel some movement in it, you should be able to wiggle it about abit.

    Try this for starters

    1. Push the power button until the laptop turns off completely. Wait for all lights to stop flashing.

2 Unplug the power cord and all peripherals connected to the machine.

3 Turn the PC notebook over and disengage the battery cover in the back.

4 Take out the battery pack.

5 Press the power button in the front again. Hold it for 60 seconds and release.

6 Install the battery pack back into the laptop and reconnect all cords.

7 Turn PC laptop around and power on.

Its called a hard reset, sometimes it works, more often it doesn't but give it a try anyways.

If the DC connector is the problem it can one of the more expensive fixes going as a replacement would need to be soldered back onto the motherboard which means the total dismantling of the laptop.

You could also try checking your memory to see if they are seated firmly in their sockets.

Sure see how you get on.
