Problem with Asus wireless

I got this problem with my Asus K52f that's been going on for a few weeks now.

The wireless will connect and the internet will be fine for a while, then while still connected the download rate will drop to almost zero and no pages will load. I click on the status of my connection and press on 'diagnose', it resolves the problem saying it was 'a problem with the wireless access point or adapter'. The download goes back up for maybe a minute then drops again. Repeat 3-5 times until it's steady.

All this despite the fact that 2 mobiles and another laptop seem to be connecting fine, yet this happens almost daily for me. And again the laptop never technically disconnects from the wireless it just won't load pages, or loads them very slowly. My wireless card in the laptop is an Atheros AR9285.

I'm thinking it's a driver problem seeing as I've had the laptop for a year and a half without this problem, but I can't find any drivers for Atheros.

    Any ideas?

Possible cures: restart the router, flush the DNS resolver cache, reset the TCP/IP networking stack, delete all saved wireless networks.

Have you tried with a wired connection? Does the problem persist?

As for the drivers, can you please post the exact model no.? ASUS know nothing about a K53f on their support website.

    Woops sorry should be K52F.

I haven't tried a wired connection, will give that a shot tomorrow.

I've tried restarting the router. Rest of your suggestions I don't know how to do, but I'll Googling them and try also.

Driver download page here, pick your perating system.

    Don't see any Atheros though...

To fluih the DNS resolver cache, open a command prompt with admin right and use the following command:
    ipconfig /flushdns

How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)... they also offer a Fix It there.
