Calibrating Garmin Edge 500 with Powertap SL+??? (power noob)

Just bought a garmin edge 500 and have a loan of a power tap sl+ wheel. I have it detected and hooked up to the garmin. Have tried googling to see if: a) I should calibrate it b) should check or uncheck auto-zero on that screen Not fully sure just to cycle away on it or does it need to be calibrated before spoiling my…

a) I should calibrate it
b) should check or uncheck auto-zero on that screen

Not fully sure just to cycle away on it or does it need to be calibrated before spoiling my first bits of power data!!

Also, whats the best display for power, power or 3 second power?
