    Anyone affect by the freakish weather last night?

    Wasn't as bad as they'd said it would be here in New Plymouth thankfully, no major damage noted so far. Hawera was hit very hard though...

    Huge chunk of branches came off a tree and thankfully missed our cars that was about it.

    Was pretty windy down here but i've felt waaay worse, dunno where this "weather bomb" term came from suddenly :)

    I have a vague feeling that some journo coined it in the early/mid 2000s - we certainly had one when I was living there. It sells more newspapers than "really big storm that did some damage".
