hi everyone, i'm just wondering if il get JSA

im 18 years old , living at home with my ma and da

my da works as a taxi man and earns about 400-500 a week if hes lucky
my ma use to work earning 450 a week but got let go about a week before christmas
so shes on JSA at the moment and she has got it

i currently just lost my job, working for 2 years in retail til the shop closed down so now im out of work and currently looking for work
i applied to JSA 10 weeks ago
they came out to my house and ask my ma and da questions about how much they earn and whats the mortage
    then left.
its been 5 weeks since then and i rang up and they said il get the letter next week confirming if i got it or not

but im just wondering what you people think, do you think i have it or not? im not greedy or looking for money for doing nothing but i have rent to pay and i am still looking for a job which i showed them proof that i am.

    thx dogy ;)

If you were working for 2 years or more, you'd be better applying for Jobseekers Benefit rather than Jobseekers Allowance.

It is not means tested, and once you exhaust it (after a minimum of 9 months) then they don't apply the lower rates for under 25s when you apply for Jobseekers Allowance (although they will still take your parents income into consideration).

If for some reason you don't qualify for Jobseekers Benefit, your parents income will be taken into account. They disregard the first 600 Euro a week of income, plus mortgage/rent costs, plus 30 Euro for each sibling under 18 in the household. After all the amounts that are allowed have been disregarded they deduct 1/3 of your parents income off your claim. The base rate that they use is 100 Euro for an 188.
