Hi, i am looking for some advice on a problem with my c/h and plumbing. Our central heating system is really noisy and thing we have an airlock, so Im going to bleed the rads tonight. Now I have noticed that when we flush the toilet in the bathroom downstairs it sound like a machine gun going off and makes noise for 2/3 mins. It never happens with the toilet upstairs but over the last few days there is a loud hum (seems to come from attic) when we used the electric shower. We have a silent electric shower so its not the unit. What i need to know is how to fix it and is it related the the central heating noise?

    Thanks for your help.

You have a water hammer in your wc cistern. It sounds like it is fed from a mains supply and the cistern valve you have installed is not suitable for mains. You could use a pressure reducing valve to reduce the pressure to the cistern.

Re: Heating noise. It sounds like you have a lot of air in the system. Is it an open vented system or a sealed system?

Hi that's water hammer you need to install a pressure reduce valve on mains in house to cut down pressure

If this is only a recent problem, it could just be the diaphragm in the ball valves, they can go hard over time which results in on/off action as opposed to a proportional flow control. resulting in the hammer noise you are hearing
